Alana jumped back suddenly and said, "Derek?"

"Yes," he said. "I will go check things out. Jack, you stay here."

Alana said as Derek began to dissolve, "As soon as he touched your mind, you lost your colors and emotions! We need to keep an eye on you, protect you! You at least need to take Jack with you!"

"He is better off here," said Derek emotionlessly.

Alana sat down and began crying. Faith went to her and hugged her.

"A vampire called him out," Alana wailed. "He felt it. That means that he had Derek's blood. By all that is holy, a vampire got to Derek before we found him and drank his blood. Why can't they just leave us alone?"

Stay put, he told everyone in the RV. I have made our home invisible to the enemy and put up safeguards, so do not leave it. I can deal with him.

That was the end of it. Alana wept like her heart was breaking. And Hope touched each of their minds, making each of them feel better, but her fear was real. She loved Derek already and didn't want to lose him.
