New York City

Old:
Marius approached the circle, and began to inspect it. The last two circles were broken, but the middle one looked intact. Standing in it, Marius began to speak under his breath. After a few moments, he yelled out a short phrase.
Segui Votro Testatum Then he brought the hair up to his nose, and snorted it.
New:
Lt. Hayes made a retching sound, followed very shortly by Marius who made a similiar noise.
"Holy Hell...this stinks." Marius said. his sense of smell had been overwhelmed by a strong scent of decay. It was alot like old blood and rotted meat, and instantly Marius regretted choosing that particular scent.
"Why in the hell did you do that?!" Lt. Hayes yelled, almost puking again at the thought of it. "You don't know who's hair that was, or where it came from."
"Actually, I know both now. Let's go, your going to drive me around for a while until we find this damn thing." Marius said.
The pair quickly got into the Lt's car, and the search began. For several hours they drove around the city, the smell continued to linger in Marius's nose, and he began to believe it would never go away...at least until they found the creature. Finally, when it became so strong that Marius's eyes began to water, he had the Lt. stop.
They were in a section of the city filled with old buildings, many of them falling apart. Marius opened his door, and prepared for the confrontation he knew was coming. Reaching into his pocket, Marius pulled out his staff and willed it to full size. He also reached into another pocket hidden in his coat, and pulled out his blasting rod. It was something he had only recently created, and was briming with energy. It felt warm to the touch as Marius held it, and steeling himself he realized that the pair was close.
"Whatever happens..." Marius said, "Stay in the car."
Getting out, Marius shut the door before the cop could complain. Walking around to the front of the car, he prepared himself mentally for what was to come, then he spoke a name...willing magical power into it.
"Arianrhod!" He yelled, his voice echoing among the empty buildings.
For a few moments, there was silence. Then an awful lauging was heard from between a few buildings to Marius right. As he turned, the sight before him almost made him wet his pants.
A large creature approached. It stood well over 7 feet tall, and had the appearence of a decaying body that had been in the sun for days. Large horns adorned his head, and his face was covered in blood.
"Mortal..." The spirit said, "The last mortal who said that name tasted wonderful."
Now realizing that he didn't have any specific plan, Marius spoke.
"Spirit...I don't think that you are supposed to be on this plane. How about you go back home, and we can forget that you ate anyone."
The spirit laughed harder, and a sudden rush of wind brought that horrible smell back to Marius. The laughter cause him to loose his nerve, and he thrust forward with the blasting rod.
"Pyrofuego!" Marius said. A 20 foot tongue of slame shot from the end of. For a full three minutes the flames leapt out of the rod, causing the concrete to begin to melt underneath the stream. When the rod was out of energy, Marius dropped the spell. He expected to see a pile of ashes.
What he saw instead made him rethink his outlook on life for a few moments. The creature stood in a pool of molten concrete...completely unharmed. Laughter echoed among the dead building once again.
"Was that your best?" The spirit asked Marius.
Marius didn't want to say that it was, but it was pretty damn close. Beginning to feel as if he might have bitten off more than he could chew, the self-proclaimed wizard grimaced.
"I'm guessing that didn't make you like me very much?"
The creature moved with a speed that Marius had never seen. Before he knew it, he was flying through the air. Landing several feet away from where he had been standing, Marius regained his feet, more than slightly dazed. he watched as the creature began to walk towards him slowly, licking his lips.
Marius began to run through his spells, and realized that he didn't have anything that would kill the creature...he didn't even know if the creature could be killed. As the Wendigo moved closer and closer, Marius felt himself freeze up. Then the sound of gunshots echoed through the night.
Lt. Daniel Hayes had no idea what the creature was. All he knew was that it looked like Marius was in deep trouble, and so he had pulled his firearm and begun to unload rounds into the Wendigo's back. The creature didn't flinsh as the bullets hit him, but he did notice quarry closer to him. As the creature turned, Marius had an idea.
Pointing his staff at the monster, he pointed his other hand at the only thing within distance that he could use...the police cruiser.
"Aquilevatus!" He yelled. A wall of water came rushing down on the spirit, who simply turned and looked at the wizard as if he was crazy. Then Marius smiled, and waved before yelling again.
"Infriga!" A sudden wave of heat hit Marius...and passed through him. The spell began to draw heat away from the spirit and the sorrounding air. As the heat was pulled, it passed through Marius, and into the police cruiser which was beginning to smoke dangerously.
Within minutes, the Wendigo was encased in a block of ice. The police cruiser also caught fire, and was soon burning uncontrollably.
"Now what?!" Daniel yelled across the street.
Picking a stick up off the ground, Marius rushed over to the flaming car. He held one side over the fire, and walked over to the block of ice which was already beginning to show strain. Running in a circle a few times, Marius soon had a line of black encircling the Wendigo. He had just enough time to utter one phrase.
"Riflettum!" Then the ice burst. The very angry looking spirit tried to rush forward, but hit a wall of invisible magic which kept him back. Marius felt his control slip when the creature hit, but he held on through sheer willpower.
"It's been fun." Marius said, his voice showing exhaustion building. "Unfortunatly, your time on Earth has come to a close." he said. Pulling the last of his reserves, Marius spoke one final time.
"Stregallum Finitas, Arianrhod!"
The creature uttered one last laugh as he sunk into the ground. Soon, he was gone.
Marius held himself up, using his staff for support. Lt. Hayes walked over, and stood beside the young man...looking at the spot where the creature had dissappeared.
"That was the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life..." Daniel said, pulling a cigar out of his jacket pocket. "How are we supposed to get home?"
Marius looked at the charred remains of the car, still smoking slightly. Finally unable to stand anymore, he took a seat on the curb. Looking up, he smiled at the cop.
"You got another one?" he asked, taking the cigar that was handed to him. As he lit it up, he shrugged.
"I don't know...but I'm on the clock until I get back to the office." Marius said.
The pair spent the next few hours waiting for someone to drive by. By the time Marius got to his office, he barely managed to collapse on the couch before falling into a deep, dreamless sleep. He didn't know that New York was going to be so exciting.
