In Plain Sight

Oruvand closed the door to his "boss'" office. It wasn't necessary, but the two liked to meet in private. Due to his skill, the man assigned Oru the especially sensitive jobs. Oru sat, as the man across the desk, Sheriff Raine Lithermoore, spoke.

"Let's get straight to the point."

The Sheriff placed a page of paper onto the desk, spinning it so late it was right side up for Oru. The man sketched onto the paper looked young, had somewhat elvish features, but looked human enough to be likely mixed. He had deep green eyes, rather messy black hair, and a look of determination was practically stamped into his face.

"I've been notified that at least 9 slavers have been brutally murdered on the outskirts of town. There are hundreds of slaves loose now, and the town guard is attempting to round them all up. One particularly shook looking slave drew this here sketch. Now, word is, one person committed all of those murders. And now he's heading here."

Oruvand sighed.

"Another one of these. I hate these slavers as much as the next person, but we don't get to decide how things are run in Dalen."

"Exactly, which he why this man must be apprehended. It's obvious that he is dangerous, and his motives are unknown, and in my opinion, that's a very bad combination."

The two stood, and and walked out of the room. Now they stood into the lobby. A rather large window allowed vision into the city square, where several people rushed by, all busy with one thing or another.

"This man is likely on the run, so you'll have to hunt him down. As sure of your skills as you are, I would still recommend a cautious approach. Who knows what..."

The Sheriff suddenly went silent, his mouth open and still, as if something had simply frozen him mid sentence. Oru followed his gaze, only to see the same green eyes peering at him through the window. Or rather, simply through the window, as the man turned and continued walking mere seconds later, apparently spotting nothing of interest.

"I'll round up the guard." The Sheriff said suddenly. Oru pulled his crossbow from his back before storming outside.

He turned, eyes trained on their target, the bolt of his crossbow staring down the man.

"You there! Half-elf! STOP RIGHT NOW!" Oru shouted, his grip on his weapon tightening as the man turned, spotting him.
