Challenge

The sudden arrival of this woman threw the group into disarray. Balar took a step back keeping both her and the oncoming soldiers in view. It was clear that her appearance had also caused some confusion among the approaching soldiers as well.

"Who are you?" Tiella hissed as she snatched her dagger back from Dyvia.

Majvoc gave her a quick glance and shrugged, "Who cares who she is. If you are here to help then get on with it."

Among the group only Jorrik gave her no heed. Instead he drew his dark sword and stepped forward towards their attackers.

"I am the one you want!" he called out, "I claim the right to trial by combat... do you hear me Captain, I will fight you. No-one else need be hurt here today."

"Oh someone is getting hurt alright." snarled one of the sisters of the old as she came forward sword drawn.

"Stay your hand Sigrid." called the legion captain. "The challenge has been made and must be answered. What are your terms deserter?"

Jorrik shrugged, "Simple, we fight, I win, we leave."

"Very well," the Captain replied, "I can not vouch for my bandit companions but should you slay me, my men will leave you companions be, but you will return with them to bare my body to the alter of light. Only then will your transgression be lifted."

"Sounds fair." Jorrik murmured and Captain Falon gave a tight smile.

"Sadly, that is a journey you will not live to make."
