So, if we’re changing things up, how do you know what’s happened in the game? I always thought the game description below summed things up nicely and set the scene, but maybe you’ll have questions afterwards?
~~~Manipulating space and time, Dr. Strange traveled to the past to warn the Avengers of the upcoming Infinity War and more importantly, how it would end in disaster for everyone. In an attempt to prevent Thanos from destroying half the multiverse population, Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch) performed a reality warping spell of epic proportions, but the magic was not stable because Wanda herself was unstable.
(In our game, not all events depicted in the House of M series/storyline occurred. Wanda Maximoff was a troubled individual and had undergone the loss of her twins and as it turned out, she would come to decimate nearly the entire mutant and enhanced population on Earth and across the multiverse, but not by design.)
The Infinity War never happened; Wanda accomplished that much. Everything still went horribly wrong, but the Infinity War, at least, was averted. Unfortunately her spell failed to achieve its intended effect. Instead of depowering Enhanced individuals and the Infinity stones, they disappeared completely in an instant; in a poof. In the aftermath of that spell and the void it left, people came to refer to that instantaneous event as The Poof. Where Thanos would have randomly depopulated the universe with the indiscriminate snap of his fingers, Wanda had unintentionally removed all Enhanced individuals from existence in a single Poof. And the Infinity Stones disappeared along with them.
Epic fuckup, Wanda.
If there was one redeeming facet of Wanda's spell - it was never intended to affect the children and that much seemed to have gone right. To be sure there were a few adult mutants and Enhanced who managed to escape the effects of the spell, but it is now fifteen years later and the world is more dangerous than ever for the children left behind charged with its defense. It was a bad time to be a hero.
Pretty cool, right guys? You get to play the part of a young adult (15-25) whose parents are dead! That doesn’t screw a kid up at all. Oh and guess what; you probably have some superpowers, but no one was around to teach you how to use them. And now a team is being put together to take on the dangerous assignment of fixing some of the fallout from Wanda’s spell from 15 years ago? But who’s putting this team of new heroes together? Oh shit, it’s the daughter of Wanda?! And she’s crazier than her mother ever was?! Man, that sounds like a great game! Now do we fanfare? Well - not yet.
