Hello, Hello, I'm Back Again

Logan groaned. This was going to make things a lot tougher.

"Hello, W.A.," she said.

"That's all you have to say to me? 'Hello'? The last time I saw you, you tied me up to a chair to interrogate me. You were working with the Kromaggs on Project Omega!"

"Right. So...how ya been?" Logan quipped.

"She worked with the who on the what now?" Mia said.

"Long story," W.A. replied.

"Yeah, that seems to be the case for a lot of things," said Mia.

"Well, speaking of 'long story'...I'm a white-hat, now," Logan told W.A. "Or at least, I'm trying to be."

"Uh-huh. And why should I believe that? You probably came here on purpose to catch me!"

"W.A., believe it or not, the multiverse does not revolve around you. It's true that my agenda last time I saw you was...not good. But I honestly had no idea you were here. Believe me, this makes things HARDER for me to have to explain myself, not easier!"

"Under what possible conditions would I ever believe you're actually seeking redemption?"

Logan thought back to the time that she met W.A., and she had her answer. "How's Sarah? You kids ever get everything straightened out?"

W.A.'s stunned silence told Logan she had hit the right note. (She was actually the same age as W.A. and Sarah, but she couldn't resist calling them "kids" to get under his skin a little.)

W.A. sighed. Sarah had, at one time, worked with Logan St. Clair. She was trying to find a mutual friend of W.A.'s and Sarah's named John Ransom. She had made some bad choices and told some lies to get where she needed to go. When she realized that Logan was a villain, though, she changed course and apologized to W.A., who forgave her.

And W.A. saw Logan's point. If he was willing to extend the possibility of redemption to Sarah, why couldn't he do it for Logan?

"She's fine," W.A. finally replied. "We're married now."

Logan cast a glance towards Mia. "Does she know you're alone in a hotel room right now with this pretty young thing?"

"What? HIM?" Mia was the first to react. "First of all: Eww. Second of all: Ewwwwww!"

W.A. blushed. Logan suspected that W.A. was actually a goody-goody, a Ned Flanders type. But she correctly guessed that even the suggestion of impropriety would fluster him. And considering the greeting she got, she couldn't resist needling him the way she had needled Miles a few minutes earlier.

"We were looking for Miles!" W.A. finally spat out. "And if you're trying to get on my good side, this is NOT the way to do it." He was too embarrassed to get offended at Mia's reaction, and anyway, that worked towards proving his innocence.

"Speaking of Miles...do you know how we got separated?" Mia asked her sort-of brother. "W.A. said it was..."

"...a transient wormhole," Miles finished.

"Ooh. 'Transient wormhole'! I like that. Where did you hear that from?" asked W.A.

Miles nodded at the unconscious body on the floor. "From someone like him."

"Speaking of which," Logan said, "We need to do something about Sleepy Boy before he wakes up. Anyone for the old Tie to a Chair gag?"

"I have to admit I'm not fond of that," W.A. said.

"Do you have a better suggestion?"

W.A. couldn't think of anything to say. So after a quick trip to a store next door, Logan returned with some rope and a handkerchief to gag Agent 47's mouth. W.A. held on to the agent's gun.

"Do we have any plans for after this?" W.A. said when the deed was done. "I mean, I've never heard of this ITF group before now. They sound dangerous. Maybe we should do some investigating."

"You mean, go back where we just escaped?" Logan replied. "No, thanks."

"Do you have a better suggestion?"

"Yeah. We wait until Sleepy Boy wakes up, and then we grill him."

"I don't want to be too rough on him," W.A. said.

"I know, I know. You're not a fan. It's much safer than going to a whole world full of these wackos, though."

As much as W.A. didn't want to admit it, Logan had a point. "Well, what do you two think?" W.A. asked Mia and Miles. "Grill this guy, or slide to the world for more information? Or is there a third option we haven't though t
