Cornered Like a Rabbit

Autumn entered the turbolift when she was encouraged to do so, but still was skittish as she refused to raise her eyes up confidently. She was startled when the man asked if she would allow him to assist her, and then held out his hand towards her. She took her time to look briefly at his face, and then down at his hand. She did not know if she should trust him, but she was of course tired of being afraid, hurt, and alone.

“You won’t hurt me, will you?” She asked him just barely above a whisper, while looking at his offered hand. Depending upon his answer, she would take his hand. If he would not cause her pain, then yes. If he did, then she would rather collapse to the floor under her own weight.
