Final Mission Briefing: The Queen Anne's Revenge (Anomaly #0091)
Agent Zero strode into the steel building that would serve as the team's makeshift headquarters for the Anomaly #0091 investigation. His men had already claimed their small, steel-framed beds, and arranged their gear near them.
"Alright, people. Is everyone ready for your final brief?"
The team moved into a line in front of their Chief.
"As you know, we're not quite sure what we're dealing with here. According to our spiritual gurus, it's a ghost ship...as you know, The Queen Anne's Revenge.
At this point, we're not sure if we'll encounter a physical vessel, real cannons, or complete hoax. But we're going to approach this as if the QAR is a completely real vessel. Spartan's got the heavy artillery. Lyons is geared up. Charon's even armed. Sort of.
"Make sure that you all have your headsets on. Not only will we be able to communicate with each other, but Sanders will be monitoring us and giving us information as it develops."
Charon's face contorted slightly. He was obviously concerned about something.
"What is it, Charon?" Zero asked.
"Sir...Blackbeard knows we're here."
"Interesting. Can you get anything further from him?"
"Not yet," Charon said, shaking his head a little.
Alright gentlemen, now for the nuts and bolts of the operation. Charon and Lyons, you're gonna be with me on the Zodiac (small rubber motorized boat.) Spartan, you're going to attempt an assault."
"I like the sound of that," Spartan said, a wide smile on his face. "How am I getting out there?"
"I should have specified air assault. The team owns a UH-60A."
"Black Hawk. Nice. Been a while since I slid all over someone, but I got this covered."
"We're going to take the Zodiac out first. We'll try to get close enough to ascertain whether this thing is a hologram of some kind, or if it's actually a ship. That will serve three purposes. One, we'll be able to give you an idea of what you're looking at. Two, it will allow us to create a diversion as the bird comes in. Three, we can pluck your ass out of the water if anything goes wrong.
"Remember what the mission of The Storm Syndicate is, people. We're not going out there to needlessly blow sh*t up or kill anyone. Our weapons should be used strictly for self defense. We are investigators, and we're good at what we do. Our investigation becomes extremely limited if there's no evidence left.
No one spoke up.
"Spartan, the chopper should be here right about," he pretended to look at a watch as the rotor blades were heard over head. "Now. If you don't have any questions, head out...and be safe.
"The rest of you come with me."
The team, minus Spartan, climbed aboard the Zodiac and skimmed across the water, disappearing into the darkness.
