A Quiet Few Words
When Jhonen landed the spinner at Queenslayer Base, he was quick to tell Jack where Joanna was. He followed the concerned father to the med bay where he found Dr. Brennan checking on her recovery. The two came through the door with a bit of force, Jack's face a scowl to rival any others.
"She'll live." Brennan said. "Thanks to Syn... of all things." She looked to Jhonen.
"Good." Jhonen nodded. Then he turned to Jack. He looked to Cross, still hearing what he said in the car repeat in his head. "This base is probably the safest place you and her can be at the moment. If I know The Crimson Queen... she won't lift the bounty she's put on your heads." He lowered his gaze, shame flashed across his face. "I'm sorry you got swept up in all this, Dark. But the fact of the matter is that you've got a choice to make. You can either stay here, join my team, and try to take down this bitch once and for all and get this death mark off our you and your daughter; or you can try and run and hope they don't find you. But at least with us, with me, you'll know I'll do everything in my power to keep your daughter safe..."
He gave him a good, long, hard look. "I don't know you, Cross. I know you were willing to help us... How well can you hold your promise against what I can say is a psychopath?"
Jhonen did not have an answer for that, instead continuing, "In the mean time. This base is open to you. Take what you want. Food, supplies, whatever. I've got to head back out and run an important errand..." Jhonen turned after he nodded to both Jack and Brennan then left the room.
Jack turned to his daughter, who laid peacefully asleep. He was aware that the doctor was right there and turned to her momentarily. "Can you give me a minute alone?" He turned away without seeing what she did, cradling Joanna's fiery red head while holding her right hand.
"I am sorry, Jo..." he said in a low voice to her. "Damn it, why didn't you tell me your plan? I could have supported you!" He paused, feeling a tightness in his throat that was unfamiliar. "It's alright now, kiddo. We will get through this... I promised you would have more than I had and you deserve it... You deserve it!"
Jack bowed his head to touch his forehead against hers. "You make me proud, Jo... You will heal fast from this..."
