Rock and a Hard Place - The Wayward

Washed, fed and awake River was ready for the morning. She didn’t mind helping out the other hunters. Besides, Rigo and Saint could use a little man time together! Better yet she got to team up with Jan! Who by far what the only person she knew at the moment that was closest to her in age! Plus the new girl Gi-Gi! She was nice and definitely was going to need some help on her first hunt. Randall though … she knew nothing about.

“So Jan … what do we know about the ‘Randall’.” She said with surreptitious air quotes, which at her age ment blatant as hell. “I mean you did that vampire hunt with him. He’s not one of those ... “ River made a crazy motion. “... kinda Hunters is he?” Otherwise this was going to be a LOOOOOOOOOONG hunt.

Jan thought for a moment, “The kind who ought to not be a hunter?” He said thoughtfully. “He may have fought in the army, but this just isn’t his fight. We aren’t soldiers. But speaking of not being soldiers, are you sure you’re up for this? Because I think there are at least four people in this bar who’ll use my skin for a rug if anything happens to you.”

“It’s a Rugaru you guys are after and it isn’t like I'm going to be doing the actual shooting or anything. Unless I am … if I am … you SO need to track me how to use a crossbow! Oh! Or a gun! Rigo is always too busy.” River said drifting off topic. “My point is there is only one person who knows more about the supernatural than me in that bar. Which is kind of surprising … you know how much dust is on half thoues books up there! I mean not saying that you’ll ever run into Rusalka but you never know right? When was the last time you studied upstairs?” River jibb with a sly smile.

“Nice try, but no dice with the crossbow. It’s a good idea to show you how to shoot though, when we get back. Only way to kill a rugaru is with fire. Did GiGi say how old the child was?” Jan replied thoughtfully.

“No. I don’t think she knows much about Rugaru’s either, you don’t think … well have to … you know …” River made a flamy motion. “... the kid too? Or should we keep that little bit conveniently to ourselves?”

“You know as well as I do that the gene is hereditary -- “ Jan said with a shrug. “Only a matter of time, and it’s not like we can tag the kid like in National Geographic.”

“I’m not saying you're wrong. We both know that it will most likely happen. Academically. We also have nun coming along so you can kinda see where this is going to go.” River was squeamish about it. It was a sad fact, like watching a baby seal get clubbed and not being able to do a thing about it. It happens. “We have two fresh Hunters, one a a nun and ex- soldier and it’s going to be a problem. Not that I am advocating to gack the kid or not. Just laying out the facts.”
“I know the facts,” Jan said hotly. “And I have a plan. Don’t worry, it won’t involve you watching any seals be clubbed. Just… don’t say anything to GiGi or Randall. And it’s gank,” he said, tousling her hair. “Gack is something else entirely.”

“Oh. You got it.” River said seeing the Nun. “Hey Gi-Gi! Look like we get to go on a hunt together! Whose car are we taking?” River said, full of way too much cheer.
