Foreseeing the destruction of their planet, Polis, their population comes together to build a multi-generational starship simply referred to as Vessel, 80 km's wide and 320 km's long. The ship contained dozens of biospheres, each kilometres across and housing people of different cultures; their goal, to find and seed a new world orbiting a distant star. More than 200 years into the voyage, an unexplained accident occurs, and the ship goes into emergency mode, whereby each biosphere is sealed off from the others. Unbeknownst to those aboard the Vessel is thrown of course and heads into one of the nearby galactic voids, known to ancient space farers as doldrums. Many of the descendants of the original crew and colonists are unaware, however, that they were aboard a ship.

Five hundreds years after the Accident, the many biospheres developed into unique and distinct societies and the knowledge they were actually travelling through space and of their origins lost and muddled throughout time.

It is said that the Vessel is still drifting through space. A world within a world...
