What Came Before...
- A reflective commentary on the fall of the UBC and the furrow of destruction plowed through the field of the galaxy by the rampaging Armada. -
excerpt from the field journals of Arkady 'Sunlion' Crylic during the Bloodshed Uprising to his fellow Bedouin Cartographers.
Location - Planet Obliette - Vivendi Sector - Barren Wasteland -
"As I sit in the cockpit of my trusted vessel, waiting for the results of my week long scans, my mind cannot seem to focus on the task at hand. I have been here far longer than I should. This particular bass relief carved onto a canyon wall is likely to be the last remnant, proof, of a society that once thrived on the valleys of this nondescript planet named Obliette, orbiting a dying dwarf star in the Vivendi Sector. The type of finding I have spent a life time accumulating for the Great Compendiums of the Bedouin Cartographers. My life work. Yet as I sit and wait for the scanners to slowly analyse and record the complex carvings, their chemical makeup and the hidden details within the relief, I cannot stop brooding what is happening all around us. About the time since the fall of the UBC, two years before and how events are unfolding.
Through contacts with various Info Brokers I have been made aware of The Armada slowly making moves away from the outer rims. The rumours are that they are moving away from their regular hunting grounds and making moves en'masse through areas they have not had any contact with before. Through sectors and systems for whom The Armada was for as far as many could remember, simply a ghost tale. A Boogeyman, a dread myth.
The Armada has been watched by many eyes over several months, as their forces slowly picked up momentum and their movements plotted by many.
News spread through the dark webways and comms and it becomes clear, at least to me, that the Armada has intent beyond a simple pillaging of regions close to their hunting grounds.
In two years since The Fall they have attacked more and more systems. Grew bloated and powerful with plunder, leaving behind them a wake of destruction and terror, the likes of which have rarely been seen in the last 1000 years.
I cannot say for certain why or how but a terrible sense of doom invades me as I contemplate what is happening and before long I believe the pirate fleet will move towards the Inner Systems, taking advantage of the chaos the collapse of the UBC has brought to the Galaxy.
I hope these words reach you sooner rather than later, my Nomadic Brothers and Sisters and that whatever mission you are currently embarked upon, that you be directed to move out of harms way as soon as you possibly can.
The Armada in Galactic terms are cutting a wide furrow through the vaste field of the Galaxy, aimed at it's heart, I believe.
In the smaller context it is a snakes' trail in the sand across a vast field of sand dunes, but up close, it is a swathe of death and destruction, many dozens of light-years wide. Like a great column of plague locusts, they will devour everything in their path. Taking only what they can use, they will grew in numbers bolstered by criminals, mercenaries and even freed slaves and the Indentured. They will grow in power and strength. What they do not need they will either destroy or set up groups to control as assets that can be nurtured and milked for more.
Though the news are bleak and not always clear after being passed from comms to comms, across the vastness of space, a new Dark Age of vast proportions seems to be upon us. One that is about to cast its terrible shadow across the Galaxy. One that would change it forever. Stay safe brothers and sisters. Stay safe and remember.
You are a Bedouin. You are a nomad. You are the future..."
