Too good a chance to miss

Connor couldn't pass this up, even if it killed him.

He hadn't leapt to the window, instead, he was across the hall and closing Lady Grace's door. Then in a flash, back into his own, closing the door behind him.

“There, near the pond... is that a carrot? It’s quite big for a carrot. Fast too. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a carrot quite as fast as this one.” She chuckled shamelessly at her own words.

And he was behind her as she said it.

She turned, not expecting him to be there or so close, and before she could say or do anything, he kissed her. He kissed her like this would be the last kiss in her life where none other after would matter or mean anything. She might slap him or scream, he could be chased from the inn, or brought up on charges of impropriety against a lady.

But that didn't matter. She was a mark and a wonderful one and while this was an extremely daring step in the con, the odd nature of this place was starting to get to him and he didn't think he could stay very long so better to reap his fortune somehow and be on his way.

And reap he would. He would take everything Lady Grace had, leave her penniless, and her name and honor in ruins and she'd thank him for it... if she didn't kill him for his daring gesture.

He moved from her lips to her neck, slid a hand up her back into her hair and another to her hip, and whispered in her ear, "Be it my last, doing this just this once would be worth the price of death..." And he continued to kiss her neck waiting to see her reaction.
