UFOP: Starbase 118 – 2013 Writing Improvement Month!

UFOP Starbase118 Writing Improvement Month 2013 Writing has always been a skilled art form since man scribbled on the walls in the cave. No writer anywhere thinks they are as good as they will ever be. Many of us strive to improve, and end up surprising ourselves with elements in our writing we never thought were possible. In the spirit of this idea, UFOP: StarBase 118 will be hosting month long event to help writers everywhere improve on their writing quality throughout February.

The group will be utilizing the Writing Improvement email list to send out tutorials, examples and schedules upcoming events. They will be hosting many different IRC and Google Hangout events during the month to help many writers with tips to improve their craft. StarBase 118 has lined up many authors to attend and host these chats, and all are welcome to attend. Included in the list of confirmed attendees are:

David R. George III – Author of Star Trek TOS: Allegiance in Exile – Star Trek: Voyager Episode “Prime Factors” – New York Times Bestselling Author

Lev Grossman – Author of The Magician King – He is a senior writer and book critic for Time Magazine – 2011 John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer

Margaret Wander Bonanno – Author of Star Trek TOS: Unspoken Truth – “The Others” trilogy (collaborated with Nichelle Nichols) – And the New York Times notable book of 1997, Preternatural

Melinda M. Snodgrass – Author of Star Trek: The Next Generation Episodes “The Measure of a Man” – “Up the Wrong Ladder” – “The Ensigns of Command” – “The High Ground”

On top of these professional writers, senior members of UFOP: StarBase 118 will be leading IRC chats open to everyone, in areas such as character development, scene setting, and grammar. Along with all of these amazing elements, they will be hosting a writing challenge from February 1 st to February 23rd.

The entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges and the winner will be announced on February 28 th.

A calendar of events has been created to make sure not one day is wasted. There are fun events planned, such as the Grammar Test hosted by Captain Kalianna Nicholotti, and the Character Questions Sheet hosted by Captain Diego Herrera. With each week having a specific theme, it is hard not to find something that will help the inner writer in you.
