The bass boomed thought he wall of the warehouse. The pop up rave was packed, bodies bouncing the the beat and pressed on each other as laser light flash colors across the sea of neon glowing ravers.
The speaker hastily set up along the walls a quick metal frame with cheap imported lights. When your hand was dirty with the setup, you knew where to look for this stuff. Yet, people didn't care. Mathias knew all too well that people came for two things. A good time and party drug. That was something Mathis supplied both.
His hands moved with practiced ease, money for a good time. The ultimate pay-to-play.
Cyd shuffled in time to the music, now and again throwing unasked-for help towards newer DJs keeping her involvement quiet. She also quietly monitored nearby cameras and frequencies to make sure the venue was safe from would-be crashers, namely anyone of authority. She smiled over towards her brother, who, per usual, found himself and his red jacket of goodies surrounded by bunnies and rabbits with money to burn.
Mathias flashed a smile at his twin before he turned back to rave bunnies and passed a small bag with a couple of pills, extended from some credits. The credits deftly vanish into the inner pocket of his red leather jacket.
He twisted the cap of a sweating but still chilled bottle of water, taking a few gulps.
Just a typical saturday night.
“Have you seen Serena?” Cyd yelled over the music, sidling up to her brother, helping herself to a gulp of his water. “I lost track of her hours ago. I knew we should’ve tied a giant totem to ‘er.” The near identical words made her snicker. “I either need something to take me up enough I stop worrying, or we gotta find her.”
Mathias tossed Cyd a baggie with a yellow pill that had a smiley face printed on it. “Sheas a big … ish girl, and as long as he doesn't bring a pet, it’s all good. Conversely, talk therapy with a cat is infinitely cheaper, so I guess I'm on the fence.’
“You’re my favorite!” She told him as she downed the pill. With it, the music beat became more upbeat, something more along Cyd’s taste. The DJ behind the table looked confused, flipping switches and dials, which made Cyd laugh. “Feel that?” She called over her shoulder. “DJ Digi Kitty!”
“DJ Digi Kitty needs to stop showing off and just enjoy herself.” Mathias clucked. “Only one uptight workaholic control freak per family, and thats me.”
“What if showing off IS me enjoying myself?” She laughed. “Don’t work too hard. Dance. Make out with a bunny. You deserve downtime too.”
“Downtime? What is this downtime you speak of.” Mathias scoffed. “You're making that up.” He said with a dismissive wave.
“Don’t make me commission someone!” She warned. “I’ll do it!”
Mathias laughed at that and put his hand up in surrender. “Okay okay! Waffles and fried chicken after, we'll use it to lure Lolo back home too. I think that's plenty wild for me.”
Cyd disappeared back into the crowd. Downtime didn’t come all that often, she was determined not to waste a minute.
Serena ducked through the wall of the warehouse. It was, after all, a rave, meaning if anyone saw her, they would either think they were tripping balls, or they wouldn’t care. Ravers tended to follow a live and let live policy. It wasn’t that she wasn’t having a good time - she was, the music was great and at sixteen her siblings mostly trusted her, and mostly knew nobody was to mess around with Mathias’ little sister. That, to Serena, was the problem. He’d scared away any prospects she had. Besides, she knew rent was coming due, and chances were they’d be light again. She wanted to help pitch in. Surely they couldn’t be mad at that. And hey, if she’d gotten a few things for herself? That was just a bonus. All she had to do was avoid cameras, which Cyd could hijack if she put her mind to it.
Mathis tsked and texted on his cell.
~Be back at midnight Cinderella. Waffles and fried chicken. ⏰🧇🐔~
-Extra syrup!- She texted a series of nonsense to represent a giggle.
~Midnight allycat!~ Mathis texted back with a smirk. ~Stay safe. Have fun.~
Serena texted a series of hearts and bunnies. First up on her list? New boots for Mathias. His were held together with duct tape and cardboard, neither of which fared well in the Sprawl’s humidity. Her eyes lit up when she spotted a pair that looked about his size. The one problem was they still had feet in them, but luckily the person seemed to be out cold… or maybe dead.
