Hellhounds vs The Storm Part 5

Vas approached slowly, tranq gun level. “You're gonna want to slow down there, kid. Don’t think I won't do you again, take another tranq, and you won't just be face down on the floor, you'll be puking your guts out and then some.” He warned. “So get … down. Before I put you down.”

“Stay back,” Kir answered, trying to stay focused on the approaching soldier.

“Or what? I shoot you again?” Vas said dryly. “You weren't in shape for a standup fight before, you sure as hell ain't now. So last time … get down.” He warned taking aim.

Kir’s vision swam, and he swore in Czech, tiny Evi feeling heavier in his arms. He pushed, a final surge of adrenaline making the world snap into motion again, even though he felt barely on the edge of consciousness. He bolted forward, lunging towards the punk soldier, ready to beat the boy with his own weapon, but the drug surged. His legs gave out, sending him sprawling to the ground, twisting to protect the girl. He tried to get back up, but his body wouldn’t respond. “Motherfucker,” he mumbled, his accent thick, eyes still on Vas. He dragged himself up on one arm, the other still wrapped protectively around his surrogate sister, his vision starting to tunnel.

Vas didn't wait before was a roughly zip-tied Kir’s hands and feet. He secured the girl, Eviinn, before taking out a packaged emergency blanket. He shook out the silver sheet before wrapping the girl in it like a burrito.

“Targets pacified.” Vas call in over comms.

Nate groaned as he dug himself off the ground. Jai gave Rey a hand up, offering a bandana even though the nanomites had pretty much stopped his nose from bleeding and were well on their way to repairing cartilage. “Lucky shot,” Jai told him, jogging to pick up his and Rey’s weapons.

“Fast shot.”Rey said, dabbing the blood away.

“Everyone good?” Vas called, hauling the boy over his shoulder and the girl under the other arm.

“Rodger that.” Rey said with a dismissive wave.

“Let me help you with that,” Jai offered, naturally picking the smaller, lighter of the two. “Hopefully they stay the fuck out until they become Blackridge’s problem.”

‘These two are like pocket-sized.” Vas snorted. “I doubt they’ll wake till they're in their cells.”

Nate called in with the sit rep and for an extraction. “After a quick stop at McDonald's!” Jai reminded loudly.

Vas and Rey both turned as if Jai had rung a dinner bell to look at Nate expectantly.

Nate gave them a disapproving look that turned into a smirk. “And you can also be as quippy as you want, as promised,” he let them know. “Big Hit burgers on me.”

“This is why you're my favorite.” Vas said she fell in line into an easy lope to the extraction zone. “At least these two had the brains to go out in the middle of nowhere. Small Potato, there is a safety hazard, but Speedster explains how they got this far out without freezing to death.”

Rey took up the rear. “Sorry, brain is already thinking about hot fries.”

“I love French fries.” Vas said with a sigh.

“I love our success record,” Nate bragged. He couldn’t help but be proud of the squad, once again they were securing their spot at the top of retrievals.
