JP - A New Girl

Haven was having a nightmare. She was back in MegaCorp. Soldiers were taking turns holding her down and- “No!” Haven’s shout was so loud she woke herself.

Yule jerked awake and looked at Haven. “Haven…you okay?” She asked through a yawn and started to get out of bed. “Do you need anything?”

Haven sat up in bed. “I just had a nightmare.” Haven admitted, feeling embarrassed. “I’m okay.”

“Nightmares can be scary, Haven…” Yule replied. “I have them too…”

“I know.” Haven sighed. “I hope the nightmares stop soon, now that we’re out of there.”

“It may take time,” Yule admitted and touched her own stomach. “We went through a lot…”

“Yeah…” Haven slumped back. “How are you doing?”

"I honestly don't know," The pinkette almost whispered as fresh tears threatened to fall. Bad dreams, memories and the hormones from her pregnancy were all building up. "Do…do you think I'll be a good mother?"

“Sure you will. You want this baby, right?” Haven never had a chance to think about keeping hers. She knew MegaCorp would take it away every bit as irresistibly forced as the conception had been so she avoided growing attached as much as she could and avoided thinking about the future. She was freed, only to miscarry within minutes.

“Of course I want this baby,” Yule replied. “I’m just…I’m scared I’ll be a terrible mom…I’ve never even imagined what having a kid is going to be like and all of a sudden I am having one. I just hope I can make them feel loved…”

“I think you’ll be good at it.” Haven said. “You’re already a great friend.”

Yule couldn’t stop the tears at those words. “I’m pretending we’re hugging because that’s the best thing anyone has ever said to me.” She wept happily.

Haven chuckled and wrapped her arms around her knees. “It’s true though.”

Yule sniffed and just smiled, happy to be with her friend, even if they were in the medical ward of the Meta Underground.

The medward of the Meta Underground was the best place Haven had been in five years. She tilted her head when she heard someone coming. She knew it was probably not anything bad, but years in MegaCorp made her instinctively brace for an attack at the sound of anyone approaching her room.

Yule watched as some nurses or medics - she wasn’t quite sure at the moment - carried in a girl that looked like she’d been hurt horribly.

“Hello.” Haven greeted, feeling uneasy herself.

The girl made a small wave. She looked at the other two women nervously.

“It’ll be okay…” Yule told the girl. “I’m Yule and this is Haven.”

The girl wrote ‘I’m Saija.’ on her paper.

“Hi Saija.” Haven greeted, hoping she pronounced the name right. She hoped the new roommate would never try to touch her.

“You look like you’ve been through a lot, Saija,” Yule explained. “It’s safe here, so you can rest and relax.”

Saija looked at the two women nervously, Yule had cat ears and was obviously meta. Haven probably was too.

“It’s okay, no one is going to hurt you here.” Haven agreed. “But… don’t touch me. I have an unhealing touch and can’t help it.” She hated to think what her powers would do to the girl who was healing from so many injuries.

“All I can do is…make shadows move or walk through them.” Yule admitted and made a lamp’s shadow change into a bunny and dance for a moment.

Saija watched the shadow dance. Haven’s power made her nervous, she had already experienced that monster using his power to hurt her. She shuddered.

“Whatever happened to you, Saija,” Yule said calmly. “You’re safe here, okay? It’s safe because there are a lot of good people here willing to help everyone.”

Saija shivered. She was scared. She did not know anyone, she was surrounded by strangers, and as far as she could tell they were all metas.

Yule laid down and sighed. “When are they going to tell us where to go, I wonder…”

“I don’t know” Haven sighed. All she knew was she would go with Yule.
