A Fair Haired Minstrel from Cloverleaf - Part 2/2

As Cedric ventured deeper into the woods, seeking a secluded spot to relieve himself, little did he know that a shadowy figure trailed his every move. Unbeknownst to him, the drow rogue Rezp, hired by a vengeful nobleman from Havenbrook, had been stalking him, waiting for the opportune moment to exact his lethal plan.

Cedric found a quiet spot, hidden among the foliage, and proceeded with his business, completely unaware of the impending danger. Meanwhile, Rezp silently slipped into the minstrel's camp, his nimble fingers deftly manipulating the pot of stew that simmered over the crackling fire.

With a vial of insidious poison concealed within his grasp, Rezp added a few drops of the deadly substance into the concoction. The poison he employed was a venomous extract derived from a difficult to acquire, crimson-hued flower found only in the darkest corners of moist caverns. Its effects were swift and merciless, inducing a rapid deterioration of the victim's vital organs.

Having completed his dark task, Rezp melted away into the shadows, his steps leaving no trace. He watched from a distance, hidden amongst the trees, as Cedric unknowingly returned to his camp, a vibrant smile upon his face, oblivious to the treachery that awaited him.

As the night enveloped the campsite, Cedric's hunger grew insatiable, drawn to the aroma of the tainted stew that filled the air. Ignorant of the imminent danger, he ladled a generous portion into a bowl, the savory scent tantalizing his senses.

Cedric took his first bite, savoring the rich flavors that danced upon his tongue. Unbeknownst to him, the poison had already begun its vile work, a sinister dance of death within his veins. As the minutes ticked by, his vitality waned, his once vibrant complexion turning pallid and gaunt.

A terrible chill washed over Cedric's body, his muscles seizing with agonizing spasms. Beads of cold sweat formed upon his brow as the poison coursed through his system, each breath becoming a struggle. His emerald eyes, once filled with mischief and allure, now reflected a mixture of confusion and terror.

Gasping for air, Cedric clutched at his chest, his heart racing in a futile attempt to fight the deadly grip of the venom. Weakness consumed him, his once agile limbs growing heavy and unresponsive. The poison continued its ruthless assault, his body succumbing to its insidious power.

With a final gasp, Cedric's body collapsed, lifeless upon the forest floor. The melody of his voice silenced forever, his tales of conquests forever ended. Rezp watched the scene unfold already calculating how he would pillage the campsite of its valuables for sell back in Havenbrook to a particular pawnshop broker. That, in addition to the coin he would receive for providing proof of completion was going to be a good return on his investment. Rezp whispered hauntingly,

For the ladies did adore you, it's true,
But life's truest gift now elude you,
In your arrogance, you found what you sought,
A heart that withers, a love of self that brings rot.

With his mission accomplished, Rezp vanished into the night, leaving behind only whispers of darkness and the lingering scent of tragedy. The tale of Cedric, the seductive minstrel, ended in a symphony of betrayal and bitter demise, forever to be recounted as a cautionary tale of the dangers that lie within the embrace of desire to the trees around the campsite. To the rest of the world, no one would ever know what happened of that beautiful and charming fair haired minstrel from Cloverleaf.
