New Chat Box Rules *Updated!*

Hey guys! Tib here but not for a Tib’s Corner, that’ll be coming soon. This is about our new chat box and some rules. I recently have been emailing back and forth with Dave on some ways to make the chat a little more secure and we thought it’d be a good idea just to publish some rules. So if you are an OW user who uses chat alot, it’s very important that you read this. It also contains some other helpful things with the cbox, so let’s start!

***UPDATED WEDNESDAY APRIL 9TH, 2014. 6:53PM EST*** Change: Information Addition and Contact Form addition

A Couple Of Things To Know

TinyURL.com is your friend

If you feel that you need to share an image or link check and make sure the link isn’t too long. If it is too long there is a site available called TinyURL. What they do is they shrink your link [Ha, rhyme intended] by making a new link that just redirects to the old link. So while the look has changed the target is still the same. TinyURL’s Website

Imgur is also your friend

If you have an image that you made or have on your computer that you can not find on the internet, use Imgur. Imgur let’s you upload pictures to the internet without even having to create a profile [It’s good to create one though if you want to keep track of what you upload.] It also gives you short links to your picture so you don’t have to worry about TinyURL! Imgur’s Website

TRY TO COMBINE YOUR THOUGHTS IN ONE POST!

Please. If you don’t it can consitute as spamming.

 Moderators

There are three moderators assigned on cbox. Tiberius, Mr Xanadu, and BaronVonLongman. We are there to help. If you need to get a hold of any of the moderators please use the emergency contact form at the bottom.

Punishments

It is highly encouraged that you follow these rules. Being a repeat offender or breaking a rule can lead to a couple of things. First of If you use a twitter, facebook, or Google+ account when using cbox your account can get banned temporarily or permanently. The same thing goes with an IP address if one uses a guest account. If you follow the rules this will not be a problem.

And one more thing…

NEVER EVER EVER WILL ONGOING WORLDS OR ANY MODERATORS ASK FOR ANY OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION OR BANKING INFORMATION SUCH AS PIN NUMBERS, SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS, ETC. IF YOU SEE ANYONE POSING AS A CHAT MOD OR “EMPLOYEE” OF ONGOING WORLDS ASKING FOR THIS TYPE OF INFORMATION YOU ARE TO REPORT THEM IMMEDIATELY TO DAVID BALL OR ONE OF THE CHAT MONITORS. USE THE CONTACT FORM BELOW

Rules

1. Cursing and Profanity

So far this has not been an issue really. If you’re going to use profanity please star your words or use leet speak! If you accidentally forget to censor yourself it’s not a big deal. But, if it becomes a problem a moderator will get involved.

2. Spamming and Scamming

This is a no no. Scamming is trying to advertise a business or program in the chat box instead of using the chat box for it’s real purpose. Spamming falls under the category of saying something over and over and over again. Now can advertising your game be considered spamming or scamming? Yes it can. If you keep trying to advertise your game and not let other members have a chance to speak moderators will get involved. Abusing this can lead to a temporary IP/Profile ban. If it becomes bad enough, permanent IP/Profile ban. Another to mention is posting over and over to try and get people’s attention or to see if anyone is on is considered spamming. Please note that there is a count in the bottom right hand of the screen that shows the number of people in the chat room. *If no one is talking it can mean A.) They’re busy B.) AFK C.) Nothing interesting to talk about [we’ve all been there before]

3. Using Fake Names AND Profiles

While in cbox it is important that you use your OW username. If you are a facebook/twitter/Google+ user, it is a different story. Just let a mod know who you are and what your OW username is. Trying to pass yourself off as someone else will lead to a moderator intervention. If you try to pass yourself off as a different member it can lead to a temp or permanent ban depending on circumstances.

4. Discrimination

THIS IS A VERY BIG NO NO! If you are caught discriminating against a member for any reason including race, sexual preferences, or where they are from it will lead to a moderator intervention and an email to David. This will defintely not be tolerated at all and will most likely lead to a ban.

5.  No Advertising Games

I thought I’d explain this too. The Cbox is meant for social means, not business. You will be told not to advertise and your message will be deleted. Please do not advertise your games in the Cbox! Dave was nice enough to provide a couple of links on where you can advertise your game. Here is the link.

6. Try Not To Argue With Moderators*

If a moderator tells you to stop something, asks you a question, or otherwise tells you to do something, do not talk back. Do not argue about the rules, do not argue about the moderator being unfair, do not debate. Moderators are present to, you guessed it, moderate the chat box. If they ask you to stop repeating the same thing, that’s because it’s against the rules and they’re doing their jobs. It not only hinders their job when you argue with them, it’s disrespectful.

IF YOU TRY TO IMPERSONATE A MODERATOR OR ANOTHER MEMBER YOU WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY BANNED FOR A MONTH.

Below is an emergency contact form that goes straight to the moderators. Please if you see anything say something. Use your OW Name and Chat Display name, it is mandatory that you do state the problem. All of this is 100% Anonymous.

Please follow the rules, these can be updated and changed at anytime so be sure to keep an eye out. If you have any problems let a moderator know. In the mean time, as usual. Keep Calm and Keep Ongoing! TIB OUT!
