Suspicion and Swimsuits

Lana clicks send on the latest submission to the local paper. It's not her best piece, but she is starting to think there is more to the story than first meets the eye. Surely someone on the city council was aware of the inconsistency in funding before they passed the latest budget. If not, how would that be possible?

Hoping the editor will at least find it intriguing enough to request a follow up report, Lana closes her laptop and walks into the bedroom where her youngest is napping. Still asleep, soundly for once. Lana tiptoes out of the room hoping not to wake the toddler.

She gathers laundry from the other rooms in the apartment planning to start the wash as soon as nap time is over. As she takes the basket to the living room, her cell phone begins buzzing with an incoming call. She sets the basket down and and answers.

"Hello, Molly. What's on your mind?" She listens between her own answers. "This weekend? I'll have to talk to the better half first and see if he's up to it, but it sounds like fun. I can't remember the last time we took all the kids to the lake for a picnic lunch and swimming. Yeah, the weather sounds like it will be warm enough for sure. I'll get back to you after I talk to him. Oh, and Mols, remember, it's our turn to bring the main dish this time around. You all did it last time. Yep, I'll let you know. Bye."

Hanging up, Lana smiles to herself. A picnic lunch would be just the thing they all need to relax this weekend. Well, if none of the kids or adults get cranky. She stands up and heads back into the nearest bedroom to search for swimsuits.
