Hellhounds vs The Storm Part 4

The boy saw it. His eyes narrowed, watching fingers pull triggers in slow motion. Two darts sliced through the wind, and he moved, not away from the projectiles, but with them. One instant he was standing still, in the blink of an eye, a whirlwind of snow and ice exploded in a spiral behind him. He scooped up Evii just as one of the darts sailed past her shoulder, the other hitting the wall of debris where he had been standing.

“Fucking dammit he's speedster…” Vas hissed. “You guys focus on the girl "I'll get the speedster …” He said over the coms while switching tranquilizers.

Not all tranqs were created equal and what worked on one type of meta wasn't always effective on another. And with speeders you need one that they didn’t burn through and hit them hard.

Vas padded along the crumbling wall as he got a clip of Pulse-Lock in place, keeping his back on something solid. He didn't fancy getting kicked from behind by some cheeky speed freak.

Nate wasn’t as astute, he didn't even see it coming, wasn't even sure what hit him, just that before he could raise his rifle, he was knocked back on his ass, trying to get air back into his lungs.

Jai took another shot at the girl, but everything was blurred. In total, he emptied his clip and reloaded, not sure if he hit anything at all.

Rey was having a hell of a time, the snow had been kicked up, clouding his view, and the wind picked up, make visibility worse. “Can’t see shit through this.” He hissed.

Vas skidded around the corner, coming up behind a fallen tree. He paused for a moment, squinting through the whirls of snow. Ideally, he was looking for something short to shoot at.

Kir tried to keep his focus on the darts, 3, 4, 5, he weaved back and forth to avoid them, made harder because he had to also avoid the out of control lightning strikes from Evii. He cradled her against his chest to protect her from whiplash, barely avoiding a bolt which threatened to knock him off balance. Nate hadn’t been wrong; Kir was exhausted, underfed, and the heavy snow was doing him no favors. Thunder crashed. His frozen feet slid. He hadn’t heard Evii yelp, hadn’t seen her get hit, but he felt her go slack in his arms. The thunder and lightning disappeared, and Kir decided these black-eyed sons of bitches were going to pay. Rey was wrenched forward, and before he could blink, his weapon was sliding down an embankment, blue blood from his nose staining the white snow. Jai was the next to fall, his rifle also stripped from him in a heartbeat.

Vas surged forward, leaning over the fallen tree and hurtling over the rubble, as he took aim at a fire. Kir was speeding around, kicking up dirt and snow. Vas tried to herd him, get him to slow down just enough to give him an opening. Speedsters were so damn problematic.

The dart struck high in his back, he didn’t even feel it at first. He just kept moving, because that was what he did; stopping meant losing, stopping meant they took Evi. The drug hit fast; his vision stuttered. The horizon snapped in and out of focus, and his heartbeat, normally a rapid, controlled rhythm, lurched unevenly.

Kir staggered, boots skidding across the ice as his speed bled out in violent bursts, desperately scanning for what or who hit him, when he locked eyes with the punk.
