Miz'raenil & Lux: Countdown to war
Lux spent all night hammering and sharpening the knife he’d promised into shape, marrying steel to mithril alloy was hard but not impossible. He didn’t have much to spare and for this Miz'raenil woman’s knife. Even less so, that much raw power and size on his size was a boon but she was gigantic, had she been a size closer to his own he might have offered her one of the failed chest pieces for the prototypes, but as it stood it would barely cover the center of her chest. Might still be worth trying to figure something out. Much as it would benefit him for her to have an accident and not require final payment. He wasn’t a monster, and the thought evaporated fast, replaced by disgust at the thought even starting to form.
Lux was just putting the finishing touches on the knife, a wicked thing, made more for slashing and chopping than stabbing, sporting a hand guard that would wrap close to the knuckles allowing for powerful punches if the attacker got too close, when the door opened, too hard.
Miz'raenil descended the stairs with heavy footfalls, the treads groaning with every step. Stealth was not going to be an option. “You said you would have a knife ready for me.” she said.
Lux sat it down on the anvil. “As promised.” he said, “It’ll never lose its edge, and is not likely to break in your lifetime.” Lux pointed to a thick log set up. “Test it.” he said, "It's too oddly sized for me to swing around and know how it’ll feel in your hands.”
Miz'raenil gave it a few dry swings as she walked over to the half tree in the corner of the shop. “Brave of you to give a stranger such a good knife.” She said, “I could have just killed you when you let me take this.”
Lux swept a hand brush across his work table cleaning up tiny fragments. “Could have. But didn’t.” he said.
Miz'raenil took swing after swing into the log, breaking off large chunks and splinters. She could chop down a tree twice that size with just the knife given enough time. After a while the thwacking sounds stopped, and a sudden sharp hissing inhale. “You weren’t joking.” she said, “Still razor sharp.”
“Good.” Lux said, “You’ll need it to be.”
She sat the knife down, “Is whatever this thing is really worth going to war with this Boman guy over?”
“He stole my legacy.” Lux said, “Wants to take something to help people survive and turn into a meat grinder.” he said.
Miz'raenil didn’t understand all this magic stuff, but she knew legacy. “Do we know how many?”
“How many what?” Lux asked.
“Men Boman will have protecting his ‘treasure’, how many we should prepare for.” Miz'raenil asked.
“I’ll have to scout the day before we make a run at it.” He said, “We’ll only get one chance. Or I’ll only get one chance.” he said, “Make sure you practice with that knife, make it a part of you, because they won’t let us just walk in. It’ll be a fight.”
