Ode to My Past

A scuffle
A bottle
Onlookers cry
A mistake on my part
Left me scrambling for life
Twisting and winding from danger
Pulled from the morning
Dragged to the dark

The figures before me quiet
Shuffling and shouting outside
Fading with the seconds
Passing me by
The search had ended
They thought me gone

“The Sun,” my company said
“The Sun will light your way to freedom
Be not nervous
The world for you is unforgiving
Be not hesitant
You have only begun
You have no choice
Like the others
You cannot go back”

Coins for my spear
March the journey ahead
My passage secured
A precious loss of a life
So old, so dear

I will never return
Crossing into unknown ground
Hunted eternally
Yet I made not a sound

What have I done?

To my dearest love
I loved you the most
To my family
You will never see me again
But I loved you too
Please forget it all

It didn't have to be this way
I didn’t want to hurt anyone
