Hope Warms the Heart

Haven - Sentinel Island

Gonyaul was slowly moving around the confining space, following along its perimeter walls. The salt water had risen, and seemed to have stopped, at just above his ankles. He was trembling with cold and found little reprieve from the movement. His blue lips were quivering from the heat loss and his nose running. The sniffles and his expression giving him the appearance that he was on the verge of crying, even though he wasn’t.

Despite how bleak things looked, Gonyaul had been biding his time formulating a new song. And once he had it ready he started singing it out loud in Vauxian. The cold air and water didn’t seem so bad while he was singing; his mind picturing Voah.

“All my skills fall short
There is nothing I can do.
They think me caught,
But I’m still free with gratitude.

I could sing this song
No matter the cost
Reminding myself
All is not lost

Because I lift up my thoughts
And love you again and again
'Cause I gave you my heart
So my life is rich until the end.

And I know it looks grim,
But even though we’re apart,
I will send you my hope to one day see you again.

I've got one response
I've got just one move
With my hopes stretched wide
I will say a prayer for you.

Because I lift up my thoughts
And love you again and again
'Cause I gave you my heart
So my life is rich until the end.

And I know it looks grim,
Because I know not where you are.
Yet I will ride my hopes to you no matter how far.”

He would occasionally take a break from the words and hum the song. Gonyaul sang it over and over again, with no plan on stopping until the water went back down and he had a chance to maybe sleep? Though it was obvious that as time went on his voice was getting weaker and the words broken up by the chattering of his teeth.
