Brief Bio

Harleen was raised by a narcissistic alcoholic mother and a gambling addicted criminal father. She spent a lot of time with her grandparents, but they grew apart and ended up hating each other. Her brother died as a teenager. Even as a child, she was mentally unstable. She developed an unhealthy obsession with an actor and fantasized about having his child by lying about being sterile. This led to a restraining order and a stint in juvie. While at a summer camp, a girl lied about Harleen losing her virginity to a camel. That girl was never seen again, but no suspect was ever charged.

After graduating from Gotham University, she got a job at Arkham Asylum. While at Arkham and working with the Joker, the Joker saw the mental instability already within her and began to nurture it and manipulate her with lies about his past that, unbeknownst to the Joker, mirrored her traumatic childhood. Eventually, she snapped, becoming the clown-themed villain Harley Quinn.

She became his semi-constant companion and lover. Their volatile relationship often led to her leaving him or getting kicked out by the Joker but always ended up going back to him in the end. For the Joker's part, while he had found her to be an annoyance some of the time, he was able to skillfully manipulate her to serve his needs.

Eventually, Amanda Waller saw a use for her in Task Force X, which Harley dubbed the Suicide Squad. The Suicide Squad was instrumental in stopping an invasion of Starros, but the publicity from their actions became too much to hide, and the illegal team was disbanded, with Amanda Waller going to jail.

Harley was returned to Arkham shortly after the bomb implanted in her by Amanda Waller was removed.
