The town of Dandelion, USA is located somewhere toward the center of the United States. We won't say specifically as this will allow the changing of seasons during play but not make it so someone must know specifics about the geography, customs, or phrases unique to a real world location or region.
The town is a mid-sized town in America with a population of 123,000 give or take a few. One of the US freeway system's many routes runs by Dandelion connecting it to other cities and towns across the country. Main Street runs down the middle of town with its quaint boutique shops and small businesses while there are other stores, shopping centers, business parks, and manufacturing areas spread throughout as well.
Dandelion has one Hospital, Dandelion General, three family clinics, and at least twice as many dentist offices. The police and fire departments are staffed well and have a reputation for being rather quick to respond, though there are some who claim there may be some corruption among the ranks in the police force. Rumors abound in towns of this size, so the truth will have to be discovered if anyone bothers to look.
Schools in Dandelion offer a few choices with the public elementary, middle, and high schools being rather standard academically compared to most. One of two private or parochial schools may offer slightly better educations to those can attend. Of course, there is always homeschooling as an option for those who choose it.
One of the largest industries in Dandelion is apples and apple products such as apple sauce, jams, juice, and jellies. This is due to several large apple orchards on the outside of town that offer fresh apples and employment even to high school students. A couple of food processing plants also offer jobs to those old enough to work near the machinery in their plants.
Residential areas in Dandelion vary from opulent houses for the executives and more financially secure, to apartments and trailer parks for those in the working class or the poor. One of the more popular neighborhoods is named Woodpark and though the homes are almost exclusively one level single family houses for the middle class, it is close to the center of town and near the largest park. The park itself has many amenities as well as a large wooded parcel with hiking and biking trails that are very popular in the summer.
Dandelion has much to offer its residents and visitors. It's also sure to have some secrets that are yet to be revealed and plenty of opportunity for even more exciting and grandiose offerings in its future.
