The forest by night

As the forest became darker and darker it also was getting harder and harder to find the trail. Fortunately, this wasn’t the first time Artem had been in this remote part of Verden. As a matter of fact, he’d travelled between Verden and Dalen quite a few times through the years. It was a great way to escape soldiers if they were on to you, since none of them would dare to follow you into the other kingdom. But none of this knowledge would be of any use if he was attacked by any of those monsters that were active at this time. Even though it was dangerous to journey on through the forest now, it would be even more dangerous to make camp since that would only make it easier for the monsters to find you. No, he had to continue and just cross his fingers that nothing would happen.

Before long he was back on the trail, which was only just visible in the faint light, but since he wasn’t travelling fast then it wouldn’t be too much of a problem. As he made his way forwards he could hear all kinds of strange howls and rustling in the leaves, but when he turned to look there was nothing to see. He held the reins in his left hand and had his right hand ready to draw his sword if something should appear from behind the trees or bushes.
