Anais and Lord Calabrix: A match made in the 9 hells
Despite his undying hatred of humans Calabrix had to admit albeit begrudgingly that the woman sat across from him was an artist, of sorts. Her field of magic was not exactly unique or special, but she had come up with shortcuts, and methods of containing unstable magic. Which for someone who wasn’t properly trained was impressive, her kind of skill with some active training, and well…an elf’s life span would create a true force of nature, and a monster. What she’d done before he’d found her and helped her hide from those prying enforces of magic, Justicar Aspen Alamoore and her faithful lap dog and sidekick Parvil Vaxis Killian. Thorns the both of them. Digging into the skin and causing nothing but pain and annoyance, ever more so since the Human Parvil turned himself into a freak of nature just to save his own life. Some bastardized facsimile of an elf. Sickening.
Anais cut a small bite of meat from on her plate. Before eating it she stopped to ask. “Has there been any word of our little…hmmm shall we call it a spectacle?” she asked.
He’d been informed this morning that they had failed, a message delivered by an officer of the peace that was on the take. Giving out information on movements of various interests, but today he’d informed Calabrix that the rigged gem had in fact gone off but the woman had reacted fast enough to be away from the blast, having apparently tested it in a dry creek bed. “It seems the woman was prepared for failure of her trade and wasn’t near the blast.” he said, but that fool, the human…Cross is a prime suspect, as we’d hoped. Paid him plenty to deliver it, had no idea he was carrying that to her door step, he believed that it was simply a commission. And after his other attempts at criminal enterprise, he is a prime suspect.”
“I’m sure I will be able to get her next time.” Anais took another petite bite, “I just need to make the fuse shorter, or improvise something a bit more dazzling, my really my forte but I can improvise.” she said.
“It will have to wait.” Calabrix said, “We have more pressing matters.” he forced a half smile. “According my men, Parvil is gathering allies ones intended to get on my side, and despite her well organised correspondence of the events I do believe Yefka is leaving out information. Perhaps she is going native, or perhaps she is afraid to speak it aloud for ears to hear. But I do not trust her.”
“You could always test her.” Anais said, “Send her a care package. A little surprise from…” she pointed to herself. “Your’s truly, Slip it in his bag when he’s not looking, flash cooked, like a grease fire.”
“I do not believe the girl to have the spine for such work. I could hardly convince her to be my eyes and ears.” Calabrix said.
“Then a test of loyalty is in order, I’ll whip up something after dinner.” Anais said.
