07: Ayala - Summary

AYALA
Ayala moves to the nearest chair and sits, waiting quietly with her spear across her lap until addressed.
"Not know. Had coffee. Is bad." She replies, remembering both the bitter taste and the blister it left on her tongue the one time she had tried it. Such a deceptively good aroma.
"Had water. Not had tea. You say."

BERNICE
"We do go for bev... drinks that are hot. Tea is hot. we usually wait for them to cool a little before drinking them as they have to be made with boiling water. I am British, that's my people," Bernice said, she didn't add that she was Welsh as that would simply complicate matters. "So I come from a land a long way away Ayala, unlike you, I am here by choice though. There, the main hot drink of choice is tea."

AYALA
You home here." Ayala replies. "Home was there. Now here. Why leave other home? I told no more hunt. So not for good hunting. Bad thing happen?"

BERNICE
"No, good things, lots and lots of people travel to live in other places. I dig up the past, things long lost and buried, I do that all over the world. If I stayed at home I could not be a teacher here. For the most part the people of the world can live together and work together."

AYALA
Ayala nods, though she doesn't quite understand.
"You leave home? Leave brood? Why? Brood bad? Or.....
lose brood?"
a mixture of concern and confusion clouds her face as she speaks. The idea of leaving your home, your brood, seems very concerning to her.

BERNICE
"No my family, my brood as you call them, and people are doing well, I left to travel and see other places and other broods." Bernice held up her phone. "Like I spoke to Valerie a few minutes ago I can speak to my brothers and sister everyday, I can see them on the screen here and chat to them. So being away from my personal brood is not as hard as it was in the past. And I can travel back to see them when I want. We travel if we want to because we can. Whilst the broods across the world have their differences they have realised the benefits of cooperation. So we mix a lot. When people meet understanding can grow."
