To risk or not to risk

Pilgrimage of Bones

From a distance Islana watched the camp as much as she could. Kaithak had landed on her shoulder and seemed to be looking at the camp with the same interest and curiosity as his companion.

There was not much activity that the young woman could see. There was clearly some large carcass roasting on open fire, the flap of the large red tent moved slightly in the wind, and the sole camel seemed quite content to be bedded down for the coming night.

She looked at her meagre rations and water skin taken from the dead girl. She had to make a decision.
