Gets Her Every Time

Islana had gotten up with the rise of the sun for so long now, even before this journey, that it was a pretty well established routine. Out here the sun became bright very fast and not waking with it seemed almost impossible. .

The night had been freezing and the redhead rubbed her limbs, then stretched, her muscle would be warmed up soon enough but right at the moment she needed the little extra to get them moving.

Reaching in her pocket, and pulling out a handful of dates, the last of them, Islana realized she had no idea how long they would stay good. There weren't that many left anyway so the remainder went into her mouth, one at a time, until there were none left.

A decision had been made to limit meat to once a day for a few reasons. The less meat she ate the less the exposure to possible illnesses from eating the animals raw. Plus, using her ability repeatedly, in order to get enough food, was draining.

Once the dates were eaten, the animal witch began her journey eastward, where the pull led, with Kaithak flying above. As the walk continued, thoughts of how strange this journey had been filled the young woman's mind. Especially the encounter with the odd man last night. Had it been a test?

Something interrupted her thoughts, a sense or a feeling that something seemed off. It wasn't long before the smoke rising into the air caught her gaze.

Kaithak swooped down, landing on Islana's arm. Green eyes met the brown ones of the falcon.

"Well, I probably should leave that alone but I can't. I need to see what that is and make sure it's nothing serious."

In other words, make sure no one needed any help. Helping people and curiosity, that had usually not turned out well for the young witch but she couldn't resist.

Islana made her way over the dune to see what was causing the smoke.
