You Were Made For This

~I'm a disappointment to you...~
Ouch. That comment stung for he realized that she probably meant it but also because it was not the truth.

Gonyaul lowered himself and Voah down and placed the bottle securely on the floor. He re-positioned her in his lap, cradling her against his chest. It was very noticeable that the past year wasn’t the only hard thing pressing into Voah at this point. Gonyaul was trying to control himself; however, resisting her was very difficult.

“You are blessing to me.” He looked her deep in the eyes. “You understand? A miracle.” His tone was stern and commanding, yet mixed with overtones of affection and kindness.

Her comment would need to be unpacked. There was a lot beneath the surface there.

Oh Gods how she drank of those pretty pretty words. She wanted them to be true. Wanted deeply to be a blessing and a miracle, not a curse and disappointment on him. She knew he believed his words and she would eventually take them to heart later, but right now in the middle of her pitiful state of overwhelming self-loathing and lowered inhibitions she was unhindered by his confident and positive nature and tried for manipulation.

She spoke sweetly as she cuddled him, poking his chest and face with a silly wagging finger and pursed lips, unsure of whether she actually believed what she was about to say, but it was on her mind and he asked if she wanted to share.

“And you are MY blessing. My Vauxian. We were meant to be… can’t you see it?”

He couldn’t help but chuckle and try and avoid her wiggling finger. “Yes. Yes. I choose you and you choose me.” He affirmed his devotion and unwavering resolve in his choice.

Then she stood up and grabbed her sword, unsheathing it and holding it aloft in the waning sunlight.

“We were brought together, you and I, by destiny to take down the evils of the maleficium.”

For a moment it seemed like she was talking to the sword.

“You were created with the power to nullify magik. You were made for this. You and I, we still have a part to play. It is the will of the Gods… Gonyaul… The fucking GODS.” she said it like it was unbelievable as she shook her head. He voice wavered and the tears were in the way.

To her display with the sword, he wasn’t quite sure what to make of it. He did think she was talking to the sword and not referring to him.

Gonyaul tilted his head perplexed by the spectacle. It felt as if Voah was a puppet whose strings were being pulled by these gods; for their benefit to her detriment.

“All life has special part to play. I already know this and could tell you such things without being a god.”

He began to rise. “I wonder why you keep give reigns of you life over to those things which no appreciate you?” After it left his mouth he wished it hadn’t. He meant it; however, he wasn’t sure she was in the frame of mind to hear that. His eyes widened to see how she took it.

“…”

The comment hurt and she was speechless for a moment.
