The Heart Grows Fonder

It was a beautiful morning rich with the inherent nature of being a clean slate. Gonyaul was encouraged by this fact, especially after the trying last couple of days. His hopeful personality was thinking that perhaps everything would turn around for the better with each step towards the docks.

Voah had returned the other day. His longing heart felt a surge of admiration and relief to have her walking through the door during one of his late afternoon meditations. It was true that absence makes the heart grow fonder. He was so grateful that she was alive that he didn’t press her for any information or provide any criticism on her recent actions and decisions.

Instead, he became a superb nursemaid. Gonyaul tended to her every need without hesitation. Food, water, tending to her wounds, helping her get comfortable so she could rest and recover, he did it all with a joy in his spirit.

He wished he could stay at home; however, she needed to rest and that meant sleeping in. In addition, they needed to keep consistently adding to their financial situation; their coin count had been getting dangerously low.

The day of work was not what he had pre-visualized. It was sparse at best and challenging to secure opportunities. Despite these two barriers to entry, he was persistent and kept a good attitude. This earned him a few coppers by the time it became obvious the flow of work had dried up.

He took a much needed bath in the river and washed his clothes as well. The dry heat and overbearing sunlight made it convenient for both his person and the desert garments to dry quickly. Once refreshed he made his way back home.

There was a strong pace to his stride. All day he was constantly battling the pull of concern for Voah and the desire to get back. He hoped he would find her at home still resting. Perhaps she would give him the details about what happened after he left them at the war camp, not just a general summary? Perhaps she would go into the particulars about the strange large egg. He ignored the fact that so far nothing had truly gone according to his wants for the day.
