The Avian Vapor

As Gonyaul’s fever laid siege to his body, his dreams continued to grow stranger by the second. His left hand had stopped twitching altogether, no longer reflexively trying to sign. He looked like he had been caught in the rain, from the amount of sweat that was being produced. Yet despite it all, he had not shown any signs of waking.

Gonyaul once again felt like he had been walking in the dark of the Ohsuk. There was no way to gain a sense of barring or direction. It did feel though, over time, there was a very subtle decline in his progressive. It was still overwhelmingly quiet. To the point, even trying to hear his own thoughts were on mute. It was nothing and nothing is what he perceived.

He continued on in this way longer still, until finally he felt something lurch in his gut. He began to cough, with no sound, and brought both hands up to his face. Moments later he coughed out something peculiar into his hands.

It was a small egg that’s alabaster shell shimmered with quartz crystal flecks. He brought it up for further inspection. It was bizarre and warm, yet despite its strangeness he could not form any thoughts on which to evaluate the object. It suddenly cracked, causing him to freeze. Then something very much alive began to hatch.

Gonyaul stumbled backwards to avoid the disproportionately large creature that emerged from the egg, dropping the remaining pieces in the process; which evaporated into mist. He fell down onto his bum, it didn’t look like a floor but it acted as one. Before him and growing was a sensuously curved beast that could resemble a bird of prey with vapor like edges and colors that shifted with its body language.

It suddenly took flight and trumpeted a sound, that was surprisingly pleasant. It turned swiftly in the air, moving in ways that defied the laws of nature, till it doubled back and aimed at Gonyaul. He began running and found himself on all fours within a few steps.

The creature clasped its talons around his shoulders and armpits and lifted him effortlessly up into the darkness. Gonyaul realized he was no longer human, but when looking down at himself he was a cute little white bunny rabbit.

Panicking, he brought his large hind foot upwards and successfully hit the avian beast upside the underside of the neck. His foot partially displaced the anatomy like fanning through shadow and mist. He was suddenly released and could feel himself falling upwards.

This confused him greatly. Was up down and down up? He reoriented himself in the void and now things felt more subject to gravity. Looking down, at least what he thought was down, he realized there was nothing to gauge how close the impact with the ground would be; or if there even was a ground.
