Questioning

As far as Islana was concerned, the offer to let others speak on behalf of the accused men was more than many leaders would allow. There was no surprise when no one stepped forward but it did not make her job any easier.

The men, except for the old man that had been so vocal last night, kept their heads down. That could be in response to the Sister’s position or just not currently have the ability to look anyone in the eye at the moment.

Her gaze turned towards the older man, who was still glaring at her defiantly. “You are the only one who did not beg for your life. The only one who is looking me in the eye. You do not seem to care what anyone, perhaps even the Twins themselves, think of you. For this reason, I will ask you two questions.” Sister Locust figured if the man answered her at all, he might just tell the truth. “Were you in charge of the plot on my life? And were all the other men accused a part of it?”

Emerald eyes stayed focused on the brown eyes of the older man wondering if he would speak up. Would he leave the men kneeling alongside him to the wolves? She had a feeling his response would matter in the punishment given.
