Children of the Void

Excerpt from Saint Iker Pahadron field journal 'Road to Salvation'.

"After weeks of protracted war against the Coven of Ushal, and as our destination, the cyclopean gates of Murontomaga, draw nearer and nearer, my mind often drifts to the past. More and more it draws to my old friend, Daewyndl'vaux, martyr of the Noctua Inquisition and Mortal Shadow of Zinheim, and his people. And how their fate and persecution were to be the final reason that the Inquisition was launched against the Realms of the enemy in the heart of Helias.

For centuries the Children of the Void, the Vaux, lived in harmony with their neighbours, and their magik nullifying abilities, the great equaliser among the realms. In every court, every noble household, at every diplomatic mission, stood the Vaux, to ensure the balance of nature was respected. But as revered as they were, the Vaux were also mistrusted and feared by the weavers of the crafts and the enemies of the faiths.

No one knows for certain when the call was put out but Murontomag's Sorcerer-King, Torkaus, declared a secret Jihad on the Vaux. They were to be exterminated and bred out. Thousands were killed before anyone realised the severity of their plight. When the atrocities against their people became known, thousands sought refuge in Mizar and Salos. Hundreds joined the Inquisition, chief among them, my friend Daewyndl'vaux, Witch-Bane, Mortal Shadow of Zinheim and would become the First Inquisitor.

The Vaux's abilities are of incalculable value to our crusade. It warms my heart that most have joined the ranks eagerly to avenge the harm done to their people, because if the day comes when they turn from the Pillars' light, we would have to go to ANY lengths, to ensure their power served the gods and the Inquisition. Our devotion can know no bounds..."
