The Truth Be Told

Sam bowed his head. He had let his guard down, thinking it was only he and Rainey around. He hadn’t realized the man was here.

So far, Rainey had treated him with respect. Even when she was trying to get Sam to leave, it was done in a calm tone. He thought best to show the same respect back. It was the old farming principle. What you plant, you get back.

“My feet may not have trod upon every inch of the property,” Sam said to Alex, “but I have heard stories of old. When the land was Comanche. The ravine in the southwest corner of the King’s land. I rode there and found a small entrance. What led me to it was a small trace of a line of quartz in the rock formation. I could barely get inside. The signs show me the entrance was once larger, but sealed. Inside, I found two things. One may bring the King family blessing. The other, a curse.”

There, he had told the entire truth. If they believed him, they will seek more information. If not, they’ll think him to be a crazed Indian shaman.
