Andy, Kara- 'Overreacting'

Who: Andy, Kara
Where: Next to a pile of dirt, beside a tree
When: 3:30 AM
"...."
"...."
"...."
"....87" Kara said.
"...87, what?" Andy so eloquently replied.
"87 times, you've grunted, stabbed, lifted, and then tossed a load of
dirt over your shoulder." The hologram replied, fuming in the former
thermometer. "You didn't say WHY you where digging, you just got a
shovel and started to dig."
Andy grunted, stabbed, lifted, and then tossed a load of dirt over his
shoulder. "He said to dig up the past. That's what I'm doing. I can
guarantee that what we need is down this hole."
"The only thing YOU need is not in a hole." Kara muttered angrily yet
not entirely sure if she managed to insult him.
"I find that hard to believe. We've gone down a metre or so and
already I've found a loose bag of Australian 1 cent coins, what
appears to be lost Shakespearian sonnet composed entirely in red
crayon... hang on- the preface is in blue crayon. Ummm...a snow globe
with little hand-grenades instead of snow, a fourteen kilogram stash
of MacDonald's toys aaaaaand... three copies of 'ET' for the Atari
2600. Huh, I guess those things really do have a half-life of nine
centuries."
Kara slammed her hand on her face and dragged it down. "Andy...are you
high?"
"Possibly I think I cracked open this poorly disposed of canister of
Cadmium II by mistake. Think it's radioactive?" Andy mused as he held
the smashed and brightly glowing container carelessly. Giving a shrug
he tossed it into the slowly growing pile.
"Andy, are you sure you even buried it here? You said you buried it by
a tree- which was fifty years ago! You had to stop and ask for
direction in a city you used to live in for four years!" The
hologramatic woman was slowly going insane locked inside this man's
wrist. She would tell no-one of the horrors the screen port had
inflicted upon her psyche.
"It's probably sunk. Like all this crap. Just stuff added in over the
years-*Chunk*! Bingo!" Andy grinned as the shovel dug into a solid object.
Kara perked up and did her best to look out the wrist-meter. "What is
it? What is it?!" The janitor turned the monitor up to her sheepishly.
"No it, it's the roof of a Volkswagen bus."
"EEERGGHHH!!!"
~~
Released from the earth's grip was a filthy plexi-glass briefcase.
This was it.
"I've found it." Andy stated firmed while he held up the case to black
sky. The radioactivity high thoroughly over and now washed out of his
system.
"For real this time?" Kara asked in a bored tone.
"For real; watch your head." The janitor's massive (to her) finger
tips soared over rapidly jabbed buttons. "I'm going to delete
everything from the thermometer that isn't keeping you connected."
Andy heaved himself out of the now shoulder-deep hole. He placed the
brief case in front and snapped open the broken case.
Memories flooded back.
The dark black computer, the scorched metal...
This was it alright.
"Wow, *that's* it? This'll tell us about your 'eternity code'?" Kara
screwed up her nose at the computer before her.
"No. It won't tell use about it. It'll give us it." The janitor leaned
forward. His finger hovered above the power button yet unable to push
it. Kara looked up at him with an impatent expression. "Well? Not like
it's a rush or anything! 's not like the fate of millions of people
hang in the bal- oh wait! THEY DO!! Hurry up!"
Andy jolted forward and activated it. To be honest if she wasn't here
then he probably wouldn't have been able to turn it on at all. He knew
what was in this thing. He knew and he was afraid.
The OS went through its standard loading screen. The pacing seemed to
last hours though it probably only lasted a single minutes. To be
honest Andy had never actually seen the computer fully boot up but he
knew what was on it. He knew and he was afraid.
"Welcome." An adult female voice greeted from the depths of the
dirt-encrusted speakers. From the corners of the screen a dark green
code quickly began to form. Kara slowly began to see a woman's face
pull itself together.
The Janitor lost it.
With a wild howl, Andy reached back for an ET cartridge and smashed
the monitor screen with it.
Slamming his wrist near the computer's wi-fi emitter, he blindly
transferred over the necessary files to thermometer. The highlander
hologram barely had time to let out a yelp before flying chunks of
data smacked into the empty landscape around her.
The second he thought that the transfer was complete Andy lifted the
laptop in a primordial rage. Lifting the laptop up above his head he
flung the computer into a broad grey stone whereupon it smashed into a
thousand pieces.
Andy's lungs worked like an ailing pony with the horse-flu as he
stared down at the shattered pieces of plastic. His glare was long and
deadly like as though he fully expected them to become alive and start
attacking him.
"Andy...?" Kara asked gently, her head barely poking up from all the
excess data.
"Yes...?" The Janitor responded in an equally soft tone.
"Remind me never to day 'Welcome' to you, okay?"
<Okay, Tagging emerald... if you're posting... or alive... whatever>
OOC: Yes, tried to tone down on a emo and go for a more manic
approach. I think it worked well!
