Jed - "Gunked"

Who: Jed Calvert
Where: Blue Dwarf
When: After Rufus threw the GUNK into Hymie-Jed's face
It burned, and it burned bad. Green blood gushed from Jed's spider
face, and several of his eight eyes seemed to explode and melt away
as the GUNK dissolved them.
Jed screamed, and the pain seemed enough to change him back to his
Human form for at least a little while. There were two things that
would turn Jed back into a Human and incredible pain was one, but it
was only a temporary solution. The other was a temporary solution
too, but far more practical and a lot more enjoyable.
Alcohol.
When Jed was Captain of the Blue Dwarf he'd drank Whiskey almost
constantly to prevent his urges. On occasions he'd come close to
changing when situations had prevented him from getting his regular
sip.
Jed writhed naked in the corridor, Dysart and Rufus legging-it only
moments before. The process of changing back into a Human was a
complicated one, like where do all the legs go? It was also extremely
painful, and caused Jed to forget all about his Hymenoptera attack.
He awoke in the corridor, butt naked and had no idea what was going
on. "Hello?" He called out. "What happened?" he looked down at
himself. "Have I been raped?"
He found himself stealing a uniform from a cargo container on E-Deck
and headed to Parrotts bar. As a drunken Captain, this is where he
spent a lot of his time - although his did just as much (and probably
more) of his drinking in private.
The barman recognised his face, but couldn't quite place it.
"Hi there." He said. "I have a feeling I know you... "
"Jedidiah." Said Jed, holding out his hand. "First officer of the SCS
York."
"Oh." Said the barman. "Aren't you..."
"I'm not actually sure why I'm here. I've lost a few of my memories."
Said Jed.
"Well you're in the wrong place buddy!" The barman joked, but Jed
didn't seem to get it.
"You're in a bar. The place where people go TO forget!"
"Oh yeah." Jed smiled. "But I don't drink."
"Ah" said the barman. "Coffee then?"
Jed nodded and the barman poured a fresh coffee into his cup.
When he was finished the barman came over to him again. "Y'know, if
you're having problems with your memory, how about seeing Doctor
Keto?"
Jed agreed and thanked the barman. He left Parrotts bar, heading for
the Medibay.
Efof Yuwan'Kar, who had been playing on the table-football in the
back, noticed Jed leave and walked up to the bar.
"Was that the ex-Captain Calvert?"
"Oh yeah! Looked just like him!" The barman said. "He said his name
was Jedidiah and he was the first officer of the SCS York... he
didn't say anything about being Captain."
"Yeah weird." Said Efof.
"Also he said he doesn't drink."
"WOAH. Very weird!" Said Efof.

Who: Jed Calvert
Where: Crash site of the SCS York
When: 10 years ago
The incline was steep and very unsteady. Jed used his blood stained
hands to pull on tree roots and use them to stop him from falling.
Gravel and soil moved under his feet and he fell flat onto his face.
The tree roots scratched him, and blood poured down a cut on his
cheek, but it didn't show as much as the dried blood that was already
there.
He crawled on all fours like an animal over a thick tree root and
through a prickly bush. Eventually he stopped, and let his body sag
onto the wet floor. But it didn't matter now. As she was in front of
him.
He used all of his remaining energy to look up from the floor. A
woman sat over on a tree stump. She was beautiful, she radiated
with... she radiated. He had to squint as he looked at her, she
glowed so much that it hurt his eyes. She was a young woman with long
hair that framed her face. She wore some kind of casual dress like no
style Jed had seen before. But as the only girls Jed ever saw wearing
dresses were strippers, that didn't count for much. It was pristine
and white, and flowed down to her knees.
Jed wondered how she had kept so clean here. He didn't even need to
look at himself to compare how filthy he was to her.
She stopped singing and looked at him with a ready smile. "Hello."
she said. She didn't have much of an accent, it was plain but
friendly.
She walked over to him and stood over him. Jed scrabbled himself off
the floor and into a sitting position. It hurt too much for him to
stand right now. He just looked up to her as if he was some kind of
child looking up at an adult.
"Are ya an angel?" he asked.
The woman thought about this for a second, then said in a very
patronising voice. "Yes. That's it. An angel."
"Oh." Said Jed.
It was a few seconds before the woman spoke again. "I have to remind
you Jed. That you're still human. Always remember that."
"Right." said Jed, confused.
The problem is, despite Annie trying to help him pretend he was. It
just wasn't true.

Who: Jed Calvert, Dr Keto
Where: Medibay
When: Now
Jed Calvert strolled into the Medibay and Dr Keto immediately dropped
his scalpel. Unfortunately it was into the open chest of a patent he
was operating on.
"Oh bollocks!" Keto said, peering into the open wound. He tried to
pry out the scalpel with his fingers but eventually gave up. "Oh sod
it. He'll never notice." He turned to the nurse. "When he wakes up,
tell him to never have an X-ray again. He's ...urm... allergic or
something."
Keto then turned to Jed, who had sat down on a chair in the modest
waiting area.
"Captain Calvert?" Keto asked.
Jed looked behind him.
"No. You. Captain Calvert. Jed Calvert."
"I'm Jed Calvert... first officer of the SCS York..."
"No you're not, you're Castain of this very ship! Or were..."
Jed looked confused, but as he thought about it, a memory popped into
his head. One he'd been suppressing.
He was in the Drive-room. The Blue Dwarf's drive room, and he was
holding his chest. A gaping wound in his chest was leaking green
blood all over his hands.
"I don't.... remember...." Jed said. "The last thing I remember was
being on the SCS York. I was first officer!"
Keto took him into a private lab and took a blood sample. He ran it
through a scanner and looked at the results on a computer
screen. "Your cells are only part Human.... "
As Keto read the diagnosis, Jed could feel himself changing
again. "I'm still human." he told himself as he felt his body start
to quiver.
"No you're not..." said Keto as he stared at the results on the
computer screen, focussing on that rather than Jed behind him who was
currently metamorphosing behind him.
A metal medical tray flew across the room and Jed growled. "Of course
I remember you Dr Keto... I remember thinking how nice it would be to
chew on your chubby little fingers."
Keto screeched like a girl.
<OOC – Will anyone save Keto? Would the GUNK have had any long-term
lasting effects on Jed? Will Jed get bored of eating Keto and come
after Dysart who shot him ages ago? >
