Two's company...

Who: Micky, Jayne
Where: Seemingly deserted city on a small planet under attack
<Snip>
The two looked at each other, and then to across the midsection at
the trickling line of leaking fuel, then at the other end, at the
flames that were trailing along it, in the opposite direction to the
flow, toward the punctured fuel tank.
"That's…" said Mickey
"Not…" said Jayne
"GOOD!" they said together, Mickey grabbed Jayne, hurled her over
his shoulder and leapt out of the boarding hatch, a good 10 foot
drop to the ground, Mickey landed on his feet, and stumbled forward,
going into a roll and dropping Jayne who once more, yelled out in
agony as the midsection erupted into a fireball behind them.
"Well…" said Jayne " rolling over, sitting up and clutching her
leg. "You really know how to show a girl a good time….."
<Snip>
"I try," Micky groaned as he sat himself up awkwardly. He looked at
Jayne and, uncharacteristically missing the fact her top was in
ribbons, noticed the bone popping out of her thigh.
"Are you okay?" Jayne saw Micky turn grey. "You look like you're
going to pass out."
"I might just." Realising he had spent too much time unconscious
since he boarded Blue Dwarf he fought the impulse to fall back down.
Instead, he lifted what was left of his sleeve to reveal more of his
new arm. The small screen there already had Holly's face on it. He
looked like he didn't have a care in the world.
"Where did you get that?" Jayne asked with interest, trying to get a
better look from her place on the floor. "Is that Holly?"
Micky turned away so he could talk to Holly without interruption.
"Careful mate," Holly started, "that Starbug you just got on hasn't
had a service for nearly fifteen years. What happened to you?"
"That Starbug crashed." Holly didn't seem to care. "Listen, I need
your help, Jaynes in a bad way. Do you know anything about splinting
a broken leg?"
Holly looked shocked. "Micky! You didn't!"
"No! I didn't! It happened in the crash!" He couldn't believe Holly
thought he had taken sweet, sweet revenge on the woman that blew off
his arm.
"Oh. Well that's good." Holly seemed to be scanning his
memory. "Nope. Nothing here on first aid. Wait a minute! I'm
picking up life forms nearby. It's not human!"
Micky looked around just in time to see the Mollopods holding a damp
piece of material over a struggling Jaynes mouth.
"Hey!" He started running over to get them off her as she went
limp. "What the hell do you think you're doing?!"
They were carrying a number of items in their short, stubby arms. One
of which was a bottle of silver liquid.
"Wait! Please!" Micky stopped dead when he heard one of them talk
with his hand raised. "We only want to help. If she stays like this
for long she will die." The huge slug pointed at the large buildings
the Starbug had just crashed through. "We saw you hit our town hall
from our hiding place. We knew you were here to help us defend
ourselves against this unfair attack."
"Are you talking English?" Asked Micky in utter astonishment. "I've
never seen an alien up close."
"No, I am speaking in Mollopodian. Coincidentally, it is exactly the
same as your English language." The Mollopod pointed at him. "And
remember, you are the alian here."
Micky suddenly felt like an unwelcome guest.
"Uhh.. Yeh... Sorry about your town hall. She was flying anyway."
He felt bad for telling on his only friend on this planet, but he
wasn't sure what to do.
The other Mollopods had poured the thick metallic fluid on Jaynes
broken leg. "What's that for?" He asked the one he was talking to.
"Watch." Said the Mollopod in a rather self admiring way. "You will
be astounded by this."
When the liquid had covered her whole leg, the same Mollopod pulled
out a long device.
"Is that a cattle prod?" Micky was confused.
"No," replied Mollopod, "it's a Human prod. But it is also used to
start the solidification process."
There was a zap as the prod made contact with the silver coating.
Instantly it snapped solid. Encasing Jaynes broken leg tightly with
a coat of metal.
"It is made of a metal you would not be able to pronounce. It weighs
nothing, but it can support the weight of a thousand stars." He
turned slowly back to Micky. "Amazed?"
"Not really." The slug was shocked. "But thanks for helping us out.
Will she be able to walk now?"
"Of a fashion." Mollopod sounded offended. He slithered off toward
the unconscious Jayne holding a different piece of material.
Micky was surprised to see her come to instantly when he held it over
her nose. Dashing over to kneel beside her, he saw she didn't seem
to be in any pain.
"Are you okay?" Micky helped her to sit up again.
"I'm fine." She seemed perfectly fine.
"You will need to get it seen to soon by one of your medical
proffessionals, but that case should hold well until then." Mollopod
was still behind Micky.
When he looked up from Jayne he saw the others had dissapeared.
"Where did they go?" Micky asked gesturing to where the other
Mollopods had been.
"We have a way of travelling around that suits our needs." He lifted
a small round device. "My name is Delvroso. I like to see myself as
father to the group you just saw, we are whats left of the kingdom of
Little Cheftonia. I was the mayor here until we were attacked by
your people." He threw the device over arm and no sooner than it had
landed, Delvroso was in that spot.
"Wait!" Called Micky. "We came to help! You can't just smeg off and
leave us here!"
It was too late. The Mollopod had thrown it twice again and was gone
from sight.
Jayne had already (somehow, this girls good!) got to her feet. She
looked a sight with one big silver solid leg and tattered clothes.
Micky took his jacket off and held it out for her to put on.
Jayne looked at him suspiciously for a second then accepted the
gesture.
"What do we do now?" He asked Jayne.
"Hold on a second! They weren't the life form I picked up." A rather
embarrassed sounding Holly called up from Mickys metal arm. "Whatever
it is, it's in the wreckage of the Starbug. You brought it with you."
Micky set off toward the exploded bug with a comedic looking Jayne
hobbling not far behind him.
He saw what he was looking for in what looked like a tall locker that
had been thrown out of the craft when it exploded. A Blue hand was
trying to get the buckled door un-jammed. Micky reached down with
his powered arm and made light work of it, tearing it cleanly from
the hinges.
He had never seen the strange, exhausted looking creature before, but
Jayne knew what it was.
"Efof?"
