"Beginners Luck"

<snip>"I'll tell you what I said last time, I'm not infallable, I make mistakes. Stop putting pressure on me and I'm sure I'll do much better this time. And it could've been worse, it could've been the borg, that would've been a pain in the ass for you.""Stop watching re-runs of star trek and do your damn job." chuckled Chris, before he turned to Rosette, "It's time we went to enjoy the fruits of my labour and party."Rosette took party to mean kill innocent holograms, but didn't bat an eyelid because she preferred Chris' idea of on the job training, and followed him to where the mass fight was now ensuing.</snip>Rosette looked down at the rifle in her arms.  It felt rather overwhelming, really.  The first time she'd ever held something with this much firepower.  Her old weapons required so much more finesse, poise..."This feels wrong..." she said, almost wanting to throw it to the ground."What? killing holograms?  They're programmed to do nothing but shoot at us, there's nothing to feel morally wrong about."  Chris replied, looking at her funny."No, not that.  I mean this rifle.  I've only ever used knives and pistols before.. This just feels wrong.""Standard issue, I'm afraid.  We might be able to get you a Carbine if that would be better?" He asked, now noticing that she didn't look comfortable carrying it.  "For now though, I'm afraid you'll have to make do."The two made their way to one of the landing bays where the holographic enemies had been spawned.  They felt like they were part of a real-action First-Person-Shooter, the only way it could be better is if they were in the TIR lab.  Rosette moved to the other side of the door with an expert roll, while Chris stayed on the near side.Rosette moved to peer around the corner, but ducked back rather quickly as a laser blast hit the bulkhead next to her head.  "Dammit." she said, wishing she had a smaller weapon to make a break for a pile of crates that was always just inside the door."Don't do it.  When you're in a security team, you work together, not alone." he said, using the sharp edge of his gunblade as a mirror to see around the corner.  "There's one my side, about 10 metres in." he said.  "It's looking the other way." he added.Rosette leaned out again, the rifle against her shoulder, held up ready to fire.  She braced herself as she pulled the trigger, not sure how much recoil there would be.  The laser blast shot forward, hitting the Krylon hologram square in the power cell, sending it to the ground.  The rifle had barely moved through the whole thing."See? you're a natural." Chris said, now noting that the rest of the holograms had noticed their arrival.<tag>Do you want a Hotmail account? Sign-up now - Free
