Seymour faces his worst nightmare... a crying woman

<snip>
Amber looked over at the little girl, playing in the corner, who in reality was
chronologically closer to her own age than Amber was to Seymour. She felt very
small with what was going on. The weight of having to arrest her brother, Jay,
her mentor being suspended, Phil dying, again. It was too much. She looked up at
Seymour, her eyes beginning to mist over. Her hard persona suffering from all
the blows it had taken.
"I... I don't know what to dooo!" She wailed, and burst into tears, flinging her
arms around Seymour.

Seymour couldn't have looked more uncomfortable. His eyes slid around in his
head from side to side as he didn't know where in the room to look.
Tears streamed down Amber's face, Amber who currently occupied the most crucial
position on the entire ship, the position which required her to be calm,
collected, professional, and most of all... grown-up.
"I... I... urrr..." Seymour honestly didn't know what to do. He'd seen people
cry before, but it was never him that had to console them. Usually someone else
always got there before him. It was like he'd never learned how to console a
woman in his life.
He stood up, watching the endless tears fall down Ambers pretty face. He edged
nervously closer and put a sturdy and on her shoulder. "Err.... there there." he
said, without any emotion. "It's not as bad as all that." He punched her softly
on the arm. "Buck up girl, I think you're doing a splendid job. True, possibly
not as great as Jay... whom as far as I know has never broken down in tears..."
She bawled even louder, and her entire body shook as she sobbed.
"Oh err, that's not to say that you're being a poor replacement. I think you're
doing very well considering." He said. "Considering that we're... thousands of
light years from home... being invaded by a race of aliens whom only 2 weeks ago
were our allies, now are our bitter enemies... Jay has been fired, granted
that's my fault.... the Queen has been killed and it's possibly all our
fault.... you gave out the order to have all infants given guns.... your father
has died again... your mother is still dead.... and... is anything else wrong? I
think that's everything. It's not a bad first week really."
He paused. "Well, so that's not much to handle now is it?"
Amber continued to cry.
From the corner of the room, Seymour's daughter Alota stood up and walked over
to Amber. She jumped up onto her knee and gave her a big hug. Amber squeezed her
back.
Seymour was impressed. "I don't know where she learned that from." Seymour said
quietly to himself.
Seymour was tempted to join in this heart warming moment by also hugging them
both, but before he could the air around both of the two girls crackled and
swirled. "Alota no! No burrowing!"
They both disappeared and Seymour sighed.
