Cassandra: Stirring stuff

BING BONG
"Ladies and Gentlemen" the echoing speakers boomed "This, is the Queen"
Those screens across the ship that were still functioning crackled and hissed
before finally resolving into an image of `Queen Brittany', sharply dressed in a
smart suit, standing behind a lectern
She stared out in silence for a moment
"Yes. I'm back" she began "I was fortunate enough to be teleported off that blue
midget at the last moment by a loyalist Molopodian faction. It took months to
recover from my injuries sufficiently enough to be smuggled off planet and make
my way here. Many brave Molopods have died so that I may stand before you today"
Cass paused and leaned forward on the lectern, staring intently into the camera
"And what do you think it was that I found when I finally made it back to a
human controlled star system after so many months?"
"I'll tell you what I found" she whispered, before shouting her answer:
"Devastation and death on an industrial scale; one more in a long string of
atrocities perpetrated by those smegging insects - that same vile, impure breed
that originated the very plot to assassinate me!*"
Cass stood tall, curling one slim hand into a fist which she banged down on top
of the lectern
"Hundreds, perhaps thousands of people have died today; friends, colleagues,
lovers, maybe even your children! And where is the mighty Space Corp while all
this happened? Caught with their trousers down, idly swanning around the galaxy,
unable to even find their arses with their hands, a map and a flashlight, let
alone contain the Hymenoptera menace!"
"Together we can stop this. We can put an end to it forever."
"How? You may ask. What should our policy be? I say it should be to wage war by
land, sea, air, space and time. War with all our might and with all the strength
God has given us, and to wage war against a monstrous evil never surpassed even
in the dark and lamentable catalogue of Humanity's crimes. That should be our
policy."
"You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word. It is victory. Victory at
all costs - Victory in spite of all terrors - Victory, however long and hard the
road may be, for without victory there is no survival."
"Let that be realized" Cass continued, lowering her voice "No survival for the
Human Race, no survival for all that the Human Race has stood for, no survival
for the urge, the impulse of the ages, that mankind shall move forward toward
his goal."
Cass leaned forward on the lectern again, staring straight at the camera
"To put it simply: We are staring our extinction in the face; it's us or them.
If we don't stop the Hymenoptera: Before long, each and every single one of us
and all our loved ones will be dead, our way of life destroyed, utterly,
forever"
"I take up my task in this in buoyancy and hope" Cass continued mildly before
she built slowly to a crescendo "I feel sure that our cause will not be suffered
to fail. I feel entitled at this juncture, at this time, to claim the aid of all
and to say, `Come, let us go forward together with our united strength and
commit just and righteous smegging genocide.' Because realise this Citizens: To
do otherwise would be traitorous to your own species."
"Stand shoulder to shoulder with all of humanity, and wage war against the evil
of the Hymenoptera."
"Be pure. Be vigilant... That is all."
Queen Brittany flickered off the screens
"Ladies and Gentlemen" boomed the speakers "God save the Queen!"
"And clear" Cassandra smiled from behind the camera "You were brilliant"
Cass stepped down from behind the lectern
"Churchill will be revolving in his grave"
"Ancient history" Cassandra smirked "Besides, if anyone even notices they'll
probably just think you were being brilliantly derivative"
"Hmm" Cass frowned unconvinced "I'm sure someone will be suspicious that I
wasn't drunk or didn't offer to get my norks out"
"Maybe, but being shot, nearly killed in a bomb blast and then caught up in an
Hymenoptera attack would give even the most vacuous cretin a little perspective.
I'm sure they'll understand that"
"Yeah, I suppose... Get a copy of that out onto the net" Cass instructed
Cassandra "It'll serve as an unofficial announcement of my return for the rest
of the galaxy; those in power might not want to hear it, but it's what the
people will want, and it'll be their opinion that will count eventually..."
The two women strolled from the briefing room
<tag>Jay – how was that for rallying the troops?</tag>
* While this may be true, Cass doesn't know this and is simply grasping at
convenient straws
