01.28: Allora

JAMIE BRADDOCK
Jamie realised that he had totally got the wrong end of the stick. He had never met anyone that has sustained such systematic abuse as she had.
“Yes, there are people at the school who have had cruel starts in life. One of my friends there is called Noah. He spent a good few years living rough on his own in utter poverty on some of the most dangerous streets in the world. Mutants are generally viewed with fear Allora, so many of our kids have dangerous starts in life, personal and emotional trauma is quite common.”
He listened as she asked more questions, content to let her speak, she had a voice and she needed to use it.
“I don’t know how familiar some people are with the world, I am a stranger to America. I get so much wrong. But there’s no set timetable for anyone when they arrive. You will get time to settle and adjust to a new life here.
“I have seen it happen more than once, Allora. When someone starts to feel safe their lives can change so fast for the better.”
