Potential

Training session with Jiyn turned out to be a surprisingly rewarding experience.
Yes, his style was a bit underdeveloped for now, but he was agile, had good stamina and was, most importantly, a quick learner.

She had no doubt he would leave many of those jokers who would ridicule him now for his bruises in the dust very soon.

When he returned the favour and showed her some of his tricks, she did earnestly commit them to memory. She didn’t think she would be using such tactics herself - not yet. But knowing them would help to devise a defence against them.
Just because you are stupid enough to try and fight fair, you’d better not expect your opponent to do the same.

Debilitating an enemy rather than killing them however was something she found worthwhile to add to her repertoire.

Imagining Jiyn on a manhunt seemed strange at first, given that he seemed to be more on the kind side. Then again, life could lead you on strange paths, as she very well knew.
Him preferring not to kill his ‘prey’, now that she could see.

They got talking a bit while taking a break and he posed some very loaded questions.

She pondered for a moment before answering in a lowered voice.

“I do. A lot, actually. Clearly, we are not given the full picture here. But yes, I expect the Lord Commander isn’t exactly here to make friends. The empire wants to expand.”

Her expression darkened a bit at the thought.

“It’s funny they promise land that isn’t even theirs to give. Well, they can keep mine. I wonder, though, if the Lord Commander isn’t biting off more than he can chew. With several expeditions up and vanished, there seem to be powers at work we don’t yet understand. Hell, we haven’t even chartered more than a snippet of this continent at this point. For all we know there could be a second Salos out there and we wouldn’t even know we stepped on the dragon’s toe before it incinerated us.”

Was it strange she kind of hoped the natives had effective counter measures? She didn’t come here to slaughter civilians. In fact, she won’t. Tenure be dammed.
