Heart To Heart

The Friar looked at both and suppressed a sad smile. They both seemed to have come out of Sentinel Island with deeper wounds to their beings than they cared to admit.

He pondered carefully his next words. "In the hayday of the Inquisition office, it was common for those in your station to surround themselves of men and women they could trust" he said looking at Voah.

"In those days, shield and cup bearers, Primus and Incus, were all part of the support network afforded to an Inquisitor." He sighed. The Friar had tried his best to keep the peace but knew that sooner or later war between religion and magic would be coming to Arcadia. "Maybe here is a change form you both to help one another." He suggested
"You could use all the help you can get in these new lands, I fear my dear. And at the same time you could help guide our lost young friend..." He proposed.

Voah nodded silently to the Friar and looked to Hunter questioningly, not trying to pressure him into anything he didn't have a mind to do on his own. "I would welcome the support, if that interests you."

Hunter was unsure what to do at this no. Since he lacked ambition he always stuck to what he knew in the past. If he wanted to get stronger then he was going to try something new. Since he had time and few options at this point he replied, “I will try, but am new to all this. So where do we start first since we are in bad shape?”

The Friar smiled again. "First you recover. If your spirit and you body do not heal you will never get any stronger." He paused looking form the assassin to the Arbiter. "Both of you."

Like it or not, Voah had to agree with the man. She had only just begun her conscious recovery and simply walking around was taxing her. Being bedridden for the week meant slowly gaining back her vigor and returning to normal activities. She pressed her lips in a line and reluctantly nodded in agreement, looking between the two.
"Friar I came here to give you my gratitude for your care and that of the rectory and it was a pleasant surprise to see you here, Hunter. Please take care of yourself."

Hunter nodded as he understood what the friar and Voah had said. He replied, “I understand. However I have been a bit restless of late. Do you have any suggestions?”

“We should talk more soon… perhaps you could come for dinner at the rectory? It would serve you well to understand the history of the Inquisition should you wish to pursue this path. We have a small library of texts. Isn’t that right, Friar?”

Hunter agreed with Voah as he replied. “Thanks. I hope you will excuse my lack of manners.”

"You will be fine." she said sincerely. She knew what to expect from the man and her experiences with the him on their missions had not been altogether unpleasant. She was glad to know that he was willing. Willing to see and admit his faults. Willing to work towards being better rather than giving up on himself. There was a difference between tempering yourself and punishing yourself for being weak.

Hunter struggled to stand up as his leg was to relaxed from sitting to long. He then gave a small bow while trying to maintain his balance. He then replied, "Well I thank you for your time. Till dinner then." Hunter then hobbled out of the shrine.

"Kupen, watch over you." Voah said as she got the door for Hunter.

Hunter nodded at Voah and back to the shack of the twins to take his medicine with his soup. The herbal remedies in his food helped him with swelling and pain. The medicinal paste used on his wounds helped for pain, infection and swelling to help speed up the healing process but he still had to take it easy and not reopen his wounds. As he was hobbling down the way to see the twins he realized he was unsure about his future. When he first came to Acadia he just want to survive, but now everything has changed and he was no longer the lone wolf killer he was. He needed to understand how to fix that since it could get him killed the next time. It was helpful that Voah and the friar were willing to lend him an ear and some aid, but he was not sure if that was enough to fix him. Sadly all he could do at this point was try.
