Till we meet again

Alexis did not enjoy to talk publicly.
But Hendrik had been her friend, and deserving of a few parting words.

She gathered her thoughts and quietly spoke.

“Hendrik came here to earn his living by the craft he chose. And, after that, to live out the rest of his days peacefully enjoying the fruits of his labours. That was all. And yet it seems, it was too much to ask. As seems true for many in these lands.”

She got down on one knee and gently threw a handful of earth into the fire.

May your body return to the soil.

Than she found a pinch of salt from her rations for the day and burned that as well.

May no dark spirit hinder your journey to the beyond.

Audibly, she said:

“He was a good man, and a good man’s memory is a blessing. I shall carry it with me. May you find your peaceful homestead in Zin’s garden, my friend.
Go dtuga Zinheim deoch duit as an tobar nach dtránn.

And the drinks Zinheim offered oughta be better then what the Drunken Hare had in store, at least.

With that thought and the hint of a melancholic smile, she rose.

“Till we meet again.”

Sooner rather than later at this rate.
