A Man of Tragedy

When she was sure that the others were ok, Voah turned away to check the clearing. Hunter had done an efficient job of removing the dispersed bodies and piling them and collecting evidence.

She looked down on the macabre scene of of Hunter cradling his dead lover. The woman had betrayed him; betrayed the Pillars. And what of the other twin? If she wasn’t among the cultists bodies already she would have to be questioned. Was it even possible that her sister couldn’t know of this betrayal?

There was a well of great pity rising in her as she thought how Hunter, a man of tragedy, raised as some kind of orphaned assassin, had been helping her for little more than spiritual guidance and friendship in a time of uncertainty. Sure there was some pay in it, she had the feeling he wasn’t hanging around for the money and she personally hadn’t given him much of anything yet. Should she just end him now? He was an infidel. But seemed unwillingly so.

No… he could be molded into something new. She knew better than to touch the man in his sleep, that could be dangerous, so she said his name gently from a distance, but loud enough for him to notice.

“Wake up, Hunter. Come now. You… can’t… you… shouldn’t do this.” she nudged him with a cautious boot.
