chapter 2 pt 9

Amelia noticed his protective stance and would have laughed if this wasn't serious. that little girl could probably take down half the men on this ranch, she did not need protecting. she thought a moment then nodded " fine...gold is not a threat to the ranch due to the mineral rights and such and I don't mind splitting with you whatever is found since you found it in the first place....however if there are any native American artifacts in there I'll give u two choices, leave them there, or tell people you found them somewhere else off the ranch." she said laying out the terms of his stay here.
Rainey moved away from the group to the far end of the barn busying er self with organizing some saddles and leads. she didn't like conflict for a lot of reasons, one she knew how she got and didn't like that part of herself and two she didn't like fighting with her mother. she was the only person in the world that could make Rainey feel small, even when she didn't mean to.
Marley crossed her arms watching the whole thing unfold. she didn't know who this guy was, but she had to give him credit for standing up to her mother like that. not many people could. that woman could stair down a tornado and give it a tong whipping like a viper. she saw Rainey walk off and went to join her. " You think Hes's cool?" she whispered to her sister. both girls glanced at I'm over their shoulder "we will see I guess." she whispered back. she hoped he was otherwise Rainey would get the heat for bringing him around and Marley hated to see her sisters in trouble.
