An unexpected arrival Part 1

Deep in the tepid darkness, an alarm claxon sounded. Was it a hundred miles away? Or was the horn just a hundred years old? Who knew?

Then a dimly lit monitor flickered to life. Sitting atop the Captain's chair, a lone figure cast his gaze upon it.

DIMENSIONAL GATEWAY STABLE...

Scarred lips curled upward into a shape they had not taken in a century.

Throughout the darkened halls and passages of the ship, there came a shriek. Misshapen creatures began to crawl up from every recess of the accursed vessel. But he did not flinch. Rather, his grin turned to that of a deep scowl at the entity inhabiting the Event Horizon. There was a tremble and suddenly the apparitions were gone.

It had taken a hundred years, but he'd broken the entity's will. Now he was the master of the Event Horizon.

"You know, you'll never be rid of me Captain Miller," a voice whispered in the darkness.

"The Event Horizon won't be bringing you back again, Dr. Weir. I am rid of you," he replied.

"And yet, here we are," the voice whispered again.

He ignored it and shifted forward, out of his seat. To his right, he grabbed a lever and flung it forward. To his left, he glanced at a screen and then threw another lever. Around him, the ship hummed and vibrated and the gravity drive pushed it forward, through the swirling mass of the nightmarish hellverse, and into the wormhole that was taking shape.

Soon, the Event Horizon would be returning to normal space...
